2. Earn 2 Membership Rewards Points per $1 on eligible purchases, uncapped, which you can transfer to 13 different airline & hotel programs
 3. $400 annual travel credit fully offsets the $395 annual fee

amex-explorer-card-art.pngWhy we like the American Express Explorer credit card

This card lets you earn Amex Membership Rewards points at a solid rate of 2 points per dollar, uncapped, without the higher annual fee of the Amex Platinum card.

You can transfer Amex points to 11 airline frequent flyer programs and 2 hotel loyalty programs, generally at a 2:1 rate. For example, this means you’re effectively earning 1 Velocity Point, Qatar Avios or Cathay Asia Mile per $1 spent on the card.

The $395 annual fee is offset by a $400 annual travel credit that you can spend on eligible flights, car rentals or hotels when booking through American Express Travel.

You'll also receive two free annual visits to the Amex Centurion Lounges in Sydney or Melbourne Airport, plus complimentary travel insurance. See our card guide for the full details:

Also, the screenshot I mentioned will help big time if you were to take things further. It's definitely misleading advertising if you serve up a 100,000 points offer to someone who's logged in even if the small print were to exclude you ('this offer is available to new Card Members' - I actually read this as 'Card' being 'Explorer' whereas I believe they mean 'American Express Card Holders').

Sorry but this is wrong.

Virtually every offer will have small print etc.

The referral link is below. The
points
[SUP]1[/SUP] is a clearly indication that there is fine print applicable.:
100,000Membership Rewards points[SUP]1[/SUP]when you apply by 15 May 2017, are approved and spend $1,500 in the first 3 months of Card Membership.

Besides even if you did not check it, they linked your Explorer to your Edge to start with and you had to call them with them seeing your Edge to get the points.
Not necessarily, I rang up first to de-link. So that rep had seen my 2 accounts under 1 name. I then started using the Explorer card. It wasn't until at least a week later that I rang up to enquire about the Explorer card and the missing points. At that stage, the cards were obviously de-linked and that rep may not have seen my other card.

Anyone had any issues with the annual fee ?
I’ve had this card since ~ 17/04/2017. Spent $2,500 odd on it, so met the minimum spend, albeit most are still pending, so points haven’t come through yet.
The concern I have is that the annual fee of $395 has not been charged. On my partners card it came up almost instantly. Yet on mine I still haven’t been charged.
Has this happened to anyone?

Mine had the $395 on there when I first activated the card but I've heard of quite a few situations similar to yours. I'd be happy if they were to charge me late rather than early! Have you got access to your $400 travel credit though?

My $395 annual fee posted on the day the first statement was issued.

the $400 credit is there but the annual fee isn't. I'm just worried that they haven't charged me the annual fee an a "goodwill" gesture in order not to give me the bonus points.

Don't stress, a few family members have had the card. Sometimes it's there straight away, sometimes takes almost a month. Doesn't mean you're forfeiting the bonus points. I speculate it just depends on when you applied for the card Vs their billing cycle.

I had thought this too.

Take NAB for example, My partner and I both picked up the Platinum Rewards card + Classic (in varying orders). Anyway, when I hit the bonus on my plat, the bonus points came through very quickly (3-5 days from memory). So naturally, when I hit the spend on the classic & her on the plat, I was expecting similar posting times. However it took a couple of weeks - but when they did post, they posted at the same time.

So I think this is a valid point from Fairbasa....whilst in the past bonus points traditionally hit quick after hitting spend for AMEX, they still may be coming. The T&Cs do say 8-10 weeks. Isn't necessarily panic stations.

Thanks for the info guys!
Guess I just have to play the waiting game!

I think so. I guess after the 8-10 weeks, if still no posting - could always ring and play dumb...may jag a CSR who inadvertently allows manual posting of bonus points. nothing to lose by then?!

unfortunately time is not on my side so cant wait the 10 weeks ! I may just have to book a revenue flight.
Forgive my ignorance, but CSR stands for?

tried that last week. my wife had a plat edge about 12 months ago. I referred her for a new plat edge. I got the 15k referral bonus. wife hit the min spend but no bonus. called amex and they lodged a ticked and they called back this week saying no bonus coz of the 18 month gap clause. seems the system loophole is fixed. and the manual posting might not be an option for some CSRs.

I wouldn't expect every CSR to be able to do it. However like the unlinking / delinking ascent/gateway process....it has been well documented that people have had success with some agents whilst others have not. Likewise with the bonus points - after the 8-10 weeks time period - if no bonus points - can't hurt calling and trying to get a CSR who will manually add bonus points

Good new, I was able to get the 100,000 points earlier this week as an existing Platinum Edge holder (I applied recently), see the steps I took in the other thread.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I think you may have gotten lucky. Which is great, and it does prove the old HUACA method can be a real winner. Always worth a try!! :-)

If anyone else tries this method and succeeds it would be really interesting to hear.

As an aside I personally don't think it makes any difference if you tick the AMEX member on the application or not. AMEX is already doing the data matching and knows you are an existing card holder - they even print it on the card.

I've noticed a few people are having to wait many weeks for there bonus points recently. Like 4+ kind of weeks. This doesn't seem to be the majority of people, but differs from previously when it seemed to be almost instant for everyone 'eligible'.

So whilst I wouldn't hold out too much hope, I also wouldn't rule it out. Fingers crossed for you!

So...Just in reference to being aware of people getting bonus points, albeit having to wait....they are still getting the bonus points?!?

You can see your membership reward balance(s) under each card (one card if you have multiple cards crediting to the one account) by logging into the app or the website.

Sorry what I mean is more of a running accumulative total
I am sure their system is right, but being the math mind I have I like seeing the points, then the new total next it
For example, all I have now is

24/04/2017SKYMESH FORTITUDE VALLE$89.941780178

There is no running total after each transaction...is there a way to activate it or something?
cheers
