I got this card via a referral link on this forum a few months ago. Love this card and it's my current primary card in use.

Here is my link:
http://amex.com.au/refer/xg81l

you get 100k AMEX gateway points, I get 30k referral bonus. 100k gateway bonus will get you 75k airlines miles (choose from 8 airline partners including SQ krisflyer, Virgin Velocity or CX Asiamiles)

full terms and conditions are in the link. But here are the highlights:
-$400 travel credit (which will offset your $395 annual fee). I did a booking last month for a hotel in Rome using the credit and the rate was as good as any travel website.
- smartphone screen and a few other insurances
- great earn rate: 2 points per $ except for government payments that earns 0.5pt/$

and once you got the card and you refer your partner, you will have 100k+100k+30k = 230k Gateway points amongst you! One way to combine points is to transfer points into Virgin Velocity and then transfer between family members for free.

Turn business expenses into Business Class! Process $10,000 through pay.com.au to score 20,000 bonus PayRewards Points and join 30k+ savvy business owners enjoying these benefits:

This fantastic offer is back!!

Apply for a new American Express Explorer Credit Card and you could earn a staggering 100,000 Membership Rewards Gateway points after spending at least $1,500 on the card within the first three months!

I applied for this card recently using a referral link of a fellow AFF member (enjoy your bonus points, Dr Ralph!), and have to say I'm loving this card, and would appreciate any fellow AFFers 'paying it forward' by applying using my referral link.

Those 100,000 points translate into an impressive 75,000 frequent flyer points/miles with Virgin Australia, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad, Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways, to $750 Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars, to 100,000 Hilton Honors points, or to 50,000 Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Starpoints (which can then be transferred onward to a host of other programs including American Airlines AAdvantage, British Airways Executive Club and more).

The card has a $395 annual fee, but that's more than offset by the benefits enjoyed:

  • Receive a $400 travel credit every year to spend on flights, hotel bookings and more - so if you were already planning to spend $400 on travel over the next year, the card literally pays for itself, and then some!
  • Enjoy two free visits to the American Express lounge at Sydney Airport each year, regardless of which airline you're flying (perfect if you're flying in economy or your airline's own lounge is full!)
  • Earn 2 Membership Rewards Gateway points per dollar spent on most charges (except government spend), which are equal to 1.5 airline frequent flyer points per dollar spent when converted to the programs above at a 4:3 rate. They're also equal to 2 Hilton HHonors points or 1 SPG Starpoint.
  • No points capping or tiering, so you'll continue to earn points and at the full rates, regardless of how much you spend
  • Buy your next smartphone using this card or use it to pay for your monthly contact and you could be covered by free smartphone screen insurance
  • Add an additional cardholder for free, such as your partner or spouse, to maximise your points (all points earned go to your account, getting you your next free flight even faster!)
  • Link your card to Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Android Pay for easy smartphone payments wherever AMEX contactless payments are accepted, including at major retailers like Coles and Woolworths
  • Transfer your existing credit card balance across to AMEX and pay 0% p.a. on balance transfers for the first 12 months
  • It's also quite a pretty card. :P

In my experience, the sign-up bonus points are also incredibly quick to appear, and in my case, arrived within an hour of the final transaction being confirmed that took my account balance above the minimum spend requirement - so, what are you waiting for?

You can apply here today!

I hope you've found my summary helpful! When you apply via my referral link, I'll receive a bonus 30,000 Gateway points if you're approved and you can receive 100,000 points in total, so it's a win-win! AMEX is also very strict about privacy, so your name and application details are never shared with the referrer. :)

I got this card at launch, my first ever amex and boy am I glad I did!

In a short amount of time I've racked up a large number of points, points that are actually useful and are actually worth something.

The annual fee of $395 is easily offset by the $400 travel credit (must be used every 12 months or you loose it!).

If you use my referral link, I shall get a 30k points bonus and you will also get upto a 100k bonus (if you meet the $1500 minimum spend within the first 3 months.

http://amex.com.au/refer/archij708Q?CPID=100199915

If you're thinking it will be difficult to meet the $1500 spend, you can consider the following:

1. link the card to your paypal account and pay your bills via postbillpay.com.au and others who might take paypal directly.
2. buy some woolies/coles supermarket vouchers
3. pay your health insurance in advance or similar

As a worst case in ~11months you notice that your spend is not amounting to much, you can sell the points for $7.41 per 1000 points quite easily

thanks a lot for using my link, its muchly appreciated and I promise to put them to good use :D

Many thanks in advance to anyone who chooses to use my referral link.

If you are eligible and use my link before the 15th May, spending $1500 on the card in the first 3 months, you will get 100,000 MR Gateway points and I will get 30,000.

http://amex.com.au/refer/8Ld4B

As everyone else in this thread has detailed, it is a really good card to have in your wallet

This is a great little card, that I use regularly (love my Krisflyer points). It would be awesome if anyone would use my link (I use other people's links - knowing that what goes around, comes around). I'm currently saving points for a family trip in 2018, but haven't got enough points quite yet.

You get 100,000 membership points, and I will get 30,000 points. This means (after transferring) that you will get 75,000 Krisflyer points, or 75,000 Velocity points.

The special deal at the moment, makes it quite attractive.

You receive 100,000Membership Rewards points if you are approved for an American Express Explorer[SUP]TM[/SUP]Card by 15 May 2017 and spend $1,500 in your first 3 months of Card Membership.

You get $400 travel credit per 12 month period, which is quite handy. (flights, hotel, or accommodation). I used mine for accommodation at Cradle Mountain - very handy!

The card has an annual fee of $395.

I get 30,000 points.

Hi All,

Another referral link post here for this great card.

You will get 100,000 membership rewards points and I will get 30,000 bonus points if you use my link below and are approved before May 15th.

http://amex.com.au/refer/mahirhObtH

The 100,000 points can be transferred to 75,000 Krisflyer, Velocity, Asia Miles, Emirates Skywards, Etihad Guest, Malaysia and Thai for award booking redemptions.

Another awesome feature of this card is that the bonus points can be transferred to Hilton or SPG @ 2:1. With SPG you can then transfer your points into Marriott awards @ 3:1 which in turn will give you 150,000 Marriott award points. If you and your partner are eligible and apply for this card you will effectively earn 300,000 Marriott award points which you can use for a 7night hotel and air package. If you have a trip coming up to an expensive location, this can be a very effective way of securing good accommodation without paying a huge amount. The various Marriott offers are listed in this link -> Flight and Hotel Packages | Marriott Hotel Packages

Finally the annual fee of the card is $395 which is offset by a $400 travel credit you receive through Amex travel. A single supplementary card holder can be added for free which will earn you another bonus 3,000 points.

I'm hoping to us my points to help offset accommodation costs in NY for me and my wife. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Happy churning everyone.

Been on this card since January 2017 and the rate that this Explorer is picking up points is unbelievable! For every $1 = up to 2pt earning. Not forgetting that AMEX have now reverted to MASSIVE 100,000 sign up bonus points, this card surely is agame-changer. Do remember that you are only eligible for the bonus points via referral links like the one I'm sharing, especially if you already are an existing user of AMEX-distributed card AND NOT enrolled in Gateway program just yet. Also, it goes without saying that you will need to have put at least $1,500 on the card in the first 3 months to qualify for the bonus points too!

http://amex.com.au/refer/munhoydFnf

100,000 bonus points is no small feat as it opens up to a whole new world of adventures with unparalleled conversion from MR to Mile points! It really almost is the everyday card for any consumers, regardless of their spending power. Not forgetting that you'll also receive a generous sum of $400 travel credit to be used on flights, hotels and/or tour packages, easily offsetting the reasonable annual fee. Note that the travel credit kicks in after having paid for the annual fee + minimum repayment after the first month. Been an AMEX user for the past 4 years and never once let down by their attentive CSR + service.

Needless to say, I'd very much be delighted if you truly think that this post helps by applying using the link provided as it not only brings you one step closer to that dream holiday of yours, but also mine as I will receive a referral bonus of 30,000 points. After all, it's all about giving and sharing to all those especially on this forum!

A big THANK YOU in advance to anyone who decides to use my referral link to apply for the card.Much appreciated!

Out of curiosity, I was wondering how long it took for you guys to be approved?

I put in an application on Tuesday and have not heard anything. I know the confirmation says 5 - 10 days working days, but I usually get notified within 24 hours or so.

Also, if they approve me after 15 May, would I still be eligible for the bonus?

Thoughts?

it's based on your application date and not approved date (if im not wrong)
did you get any SMS or if you got a reference no for the application, you can call them to check the status..

Haha. Yeah, I decided to just call them. The guy on the phone just pushed through my approval. Took 2 minutes. All done. Haha.

Hello Cerca. Last I remember, the application process took less than 48 hours but also given the fact that I was already an existing customer when I signed up for the Explorer. That said, Amex CSR is one of the best and a simple phone call usually solves most, if not all issues.

Great to hear! I was lucky when I applied - the website sat there thinking for a minute or so and the next screen showed 'you have been approved' or similar -had the card within a week. (But, you know, being a travel-themed card aimed at travellers, I was fittingly away when it showed up but it was waiting for me when I got home!) :)

This post is directed at those of you on here who haven’t yet exploited all that American Express has to offer with sign-ups. So, if you (or your partner) haven’t held a direct AMEX in the last 18 months – read on.

My partner and I have been collecting FF points for just over a year. We’ve been so grateful for all of the advice on these forums and with just a little outlay on special offers and annual fees we’ve already earned enough points for our annual trip (in business class) for the next two years. The use of AMEX sign-on bonuses (or is that bonii?) have been key to our strategy.

One quirk with AMEX that we took advantage of was the use of household income to meet the minimum income criteria. For many cards, AMEX are happy to take into account household (combined) incomes for some cards (you should make your own enquiries with AMEX on this like we did back in January). This means that I was able to apply for the Explorer (using a referral link from here) and get the 100k Gateway points. I was then able to refer my partner (who individually earns well under the minimum income) who also got the 100k points (and I got the referral points). Final result – 230k Gateway points (around 170k airline miles after conversion) for $790 in annual fees (but we’ve made good use of the $800 in travel credits).

We made the decision that I would hold a Platinum Edge (for 3ppd at supermarkets) and my partner would apply for the Qantas AMEX for an extra 100k Qantas FF points. Essentially, I hold cards for annual spend, partner will cycle through cards where available (including seeing out the 18 month waiting period to be eligible for future bonuses).

So, in our household we get 3 Ascent ppd at Woolworths and Coles and with a bit of planning, 3ppd through purchasing the massive range of gift cards available at the supermarkets. This includes fuel, liquor, most department stores, telephone credit, office supplies etc. When the car needed $1100 of car repairs last week we were able to buy Coles Myer gift cards and use them at Kmart Tyre and Auto (hello 3300 points). We use the Explorer card for everything else for another 2 Gateway ppd. With our spending strategy and through maximising the many supplementary card/supermarket offers over the last year we’ve been able to earn many thousands of points.

So, if you haven’t jumped in yet, this really is a great time to apply for the Explorer card. By using a referral link (like mine below) you will earn 100k Gateway points and I will get a referral reward of 30k points. You’ll pay a $395 annual fee but will get a $400 travel credit in return. But you’ll need to act soon as the current offer expires on MONDAY 15[SUP]th[/SUP] MAY.

http://amex.com.au/refer/samuehe1xd

If you want to go the extra mile for 3ppd at supermarkets then please consider using my Platinum Edge referral link (also below). You most likely won’t get a referral bonus if you already hold an Amex, but there’s a $0 annual fee for sign-ups at present and according to the website you’ll still get the $200 travel credit. I’d appreciate the referral award of 15k. The website doesn’t note when this current offer also expires.

http://amex.com.au/refer/samuehpPsO

Good luck with your points hunting. If you’re new to the game there’s a lot to learn but as a newbie, there’s also a lot of opportunities.

Now, I’m off to the DJs AMEX referral page to make the most of a link for the partner for another bonus…
