Amex free flight upgrade?

With the new upgrades to the Virgin booking system (Travel Bank), has anyone tried to see if the upgrade process is easier?

*bump* Has anybody tried yet post Sabre install...is the credit put into the travel bank?

Keen to hear recent experiences.

I wish to book a SYD-MEL, would be good to reissue if the credits still work.

Would also like to know, have $100 in VA Travel bank and if I can top that up a bit it will give me MEL-PER-HKT for not such.. :)

Just booked my free flight and was advised once its ticketed, to call back the following day to pay a $87 + fare difference fee to upgrade to flexi.

Will post outcome tomorrow as I want to use my comp upgrade and get some SC on my trip to MEL.

How did this go?

Hey,

Wow what a confusing process. Booked the free flight. Cancelled into a credit shell. Had to pay 107 and fare difference.

All in all I paid 120 for a 1 way flexi after fare difference and fees.

Out of pocket has increased significantly from when I did it before Christmas! Think I was only out of pocket ~$20. Flexi price has increased almost $100 since then though, so I guess it's about right.

Had to pay 107

Perhaps the fees have gone up? Last time I tried this is was $87 cancel fee. You pay an additional $27 if you rebook through Amex Travel, you won't pay this if you use your Virgin credit shell directly with virgin however (or at least, you never used to).

Its 80 cancel or 60 change fee (from virgin) and 27 fee from amex travel. I was told you cant use use the credit shell and only amex can (by amex)

If you're forced to rebook through Amex they have some gall charging for it. In my opinion anyway.

Can a kind soul please write up the new method of doing this? I'm planning on redeeming my free flight some time next month...

Can confirm the cancellation fee is $107 with the change fee costing $87 , if I cancel a credit will be issued as informed by the operator .

The credit is held under the usual reference number that Virgin uses for such a thing.
thanks, I tried using the VA booking reference - but the GCC couldn't locate that booking reference anywhere in their system - though it had previously been there as it was created and showed the VA 'Manage My Bookings' on the website. Still has a credit with AMEX travel, oh well.

That seems odd. Maybe try another operator and ask how a booking can just disappear? Don't say it was done via AMEX upfront or they'll probably just try and palm it off.
