Called again and got 40k points to keep the platinum reserve (it's still linked to my charge card with the free travel credit).

Go for it. Nothing to lose lol. They just keep paying us to keep it.I keep forgetting to do the dance with this card. Might need to do so next week.
Tried again and got 40k - probably still worth it, just...Annual fee just landed on the Explorer, decided to ring up and cancel and they offered 60k after cancelling with some prompting - probably worth it to keep for a year.
Tried again, no retention points. Cancelled card.
will reinstate in few days
Is that with your platinum charge? I can't believe they're not offering you anything on that spend level
Possibly. It could be that you haven't had the card for 12 months yet though. If you haven't been charged the renewal fee yet then wait until afterwards. Could also be because your rewards points balance is really high. I think their algorithm doesn't offer as many bonuses if that's the case since you're less likely to actually leave.yes my platinum charge.
i assume they took a huge hit with my spend during the double credit promo
Do you ever use your Plat Reserve card? I honestly forget I even have it, so I think my spend on will be $0 - wonder if this will impact the offer I'm given?Called again and got 40k points to keep the platinum reserve (it's still linked to my charge card with the free travel credit).
Only started using it a bit recently but have gotten points back when there was $0 spend. They'll probably still offer you somethingDo you ever use your Plat Reserve card? I honestly forget I even have it, so I think my spend on will be $0 - wonder if this will impact the offer I'm given?
Given its a credit card, not a charge card (and they aren't allowed to offer inducements to not cancel credit cards AFAIK), do you have to actually go through with cancellation in order to get an offer to re-instate the card?Only started using it a bit recently but have gotten points back when there was $0 spend. Is there Any risk here that when they Re-instate the Plat Reserve card that I’ll lose the annual travel credit on that card going forward?
Don’t think so. I still have mine. The card doesn’t actually get closed it just gets moved to a pending state for 30 days. So you have that long to re instate itIs there Any risk here that when they Re-instate the Plat Reserve card that I’ll lose the annual travel credit on that card going forward?
I think we always had the 30 days. I’ve always just re-opened / said I changed my mind while on the call. Even just recently for the Reserve cardI thought that now they had to be re applied for if closed and not re-opened on the same call … for instance to avoid us reinstating them after other finance allocations had been processed.
might we actually have had 30 days all along?
Could just be a retention / sales tactic to make sure they keep you as a customer. Because you'd be less likely to reinstate it if you ended the call. Not sure though. Thanks that’s good to know. When I did the dance with my explorer card, they said had to reinstate on the same call or otherwise I couldn’t get it back without re-applying.
some other banks have said the same thing so figured it was the case. Sounds like Amex have read from the script but they may be a little different which is good to know.
what was your points balance & monthly spend before the bonus 120k if you don't mind be asking?Just taught a friend how to do the dance with the platinum card. They walked out of it with 120,000 MR. Same as I got the other week.
Reason for thinking about cancelling was the reduced benefits since we can't travel much at the moment
