What about current Gold Credit Card members? Anybody received any interesting "upgrade offers" out there?

I got a call from AMEX the other day asking if I had got my upgrade invitation. I haven't, so I don't know if the offer is interesting or not.

Regardless, I'll probably take up the offer, if and when I get it

I had applied for all cards - personal, additional (Mrs LW) and a business card.

Arrived home tonight to find two separate envelopes on the table and my wife had opened the one addressed to her. Eyes wide open and "darling, do these replace our Gold ones..."

Rang up and got Mumbai call centre and got them both ready to go.

Now waiting on my card (sent separately as they don't issue them all together) and then seeing the brochure/package I'm sure I'll get.

Different look on the front of the card - American Express in capitals top LHS, with an enlargement of the swirl with "American Express" in it below. "Foundation Member" in the middle LHS above the number. Nice design of the Centurion's head on the RHS, with two vertical lines and the word "Platinum" middle to bottom RHS.

The biggest difference is the lack of "valid from" date, instead it only has "valid thru" underneath card number. Member since date opposite side. The four digit ID number is higher and smaller - directly opposite the centurion's eyes (as if he's watching it) adn through the vertical lines.

I seem to remember the old AmEx Plat card had a 1.5 point deal as well as some sort of flight deal (like buy one round world ticket at their expensive price and get another free).

It's a pity they only offer 1:1 points. With my current spend my preference is the Gold Maximiser which is free for my first year. Maybe I'll reconsider it in 12 months time. :-)

Regards
Daniel

The new plat credit card (not the old charge card) offfers 1.5:1 for the first $100,000.

Oh, well that makes a big difference to me now. I'll definitely consider getting a Plat card just for the flight and the other ancilliary benefits once my AmEx Gold Max finishes its first year around the traps.

My current business spend is about $8k a month so the $100k limit will not really bother me expecially since I still use my ANZ Qantas Gold Visa for plane ticket purchases (so I can get the bonus points).

Thanks for the heads up.

Regards
Daniel

Yep, I've sent the forms in to move from the Amex Platinum Credit Card to the Law Institute of Victoria Amex Platinum Credit Card and will save $100 off the annual fee.

Has anyone got their Travel & Leisure Magazine? I haven't got mine yet.

Furthermore I am not happy with regard to the card manufacturing. Anyone notice that the writing on the back (the cc number) is very rough and is coming through on the front of the card? Amex says no one else has complained.

The insurance offered on the card is less than the CBA Platinum. Compare the policies AMEX Plat and CBA Plat offer for "loss of eye sight, legs, arms etc"

Also this card is very good unless you want to pay $900 for the charge card, but again, that would only be worth it if you do a lot of travelling etc....

My Gold Maximiser has imprints on the back that causes indentations onto the front as well.

many of my cards have this same problem as well (only amex)

my point exactly

My point exactly.........
So it's just not me then..

I hope you guys will call their Customer Service and tell them about it.

Because no one has ever complained and that was according to both their Platinum Customer Service Department and their Executive Office.

rewards

DanielH,

The rewards is 1:1.5 for $100 000 spent on the AMEX Platinum Credit Card
The charge card offers 1:1.5 for $200 000 spent on the card.
Both revert to 1:1 after this amount has been spent.

You may be eligible for a Platinum charge card invitation - you just need to phone them and ask them to check on the system if you are eligible.

Cheers

One of my Mastercards has the same issue. But really, is it something that matters that much? I'm thinking it is something that people are unlikely to complain about.

I have a visa and mastercard with slight damage on the front caused by heavy striking of numbers on the back.

In all honesty? Doesn't worry me. Assume it's par for the course. I think there are only about 3 credit card manufacturer's in Australia. Maybe one of them strikes numbers a little harder than the others. They have to mark the numbers on the back so that they don't rub off easily.

Yes, my card has the same issue. My A/c card is being replaced as it was incorrect and it has the same problem, be interesting if the replacement has the issue.

Sounds pretty trivial to me. I have 5 credit cards and as long as they are usable who cares about the markings. There are no prizes for having the best looking card. Is there?

My platinum visa has much more damage going throught the machines many times. As long as it works.....

Got my Platinum Credit Card today so I'm swinging all my business expenses to it away from my Westpac Amex Card.

As for my personal expenditure I'll be using our new AMEX Rewards Maximiser. The fact that the two cards are different colours will make it easier for my wife to not put personal expenditure on the business card like she was prone to do with the Westpac Amex card that we were using for personal expenditure. :x

I was reading up on the membership rewards and realised that one of AMEX's bonus partners is Energy Australia. The deal is that if you sign up for a 3 year contract for electricity and gas and direct debit to your Amex card you'll get 7,000 bonus points. The timing was great, I just came off contract a couple of months ago and never got around to renewing..I will now

What sort of wait are people experiencing from applying to receiving the card?

I applied on 28/9, 4/10 they checked my Baycorp file (gotta love credit file monitoring!).

Assume card must be just about here as long as there are no approval hitches.

Experiences for others?

It took about 10 business days as they state in my case. Was about 5 to 6 after they did the credit check for me.

It's not so trivial when the card start to crack where it is weakened at the numbers. This has happened to me. Imagine having this happen O/S...

oh  it's an Amex.. "Mr Wong?" ... we have an office wight here.
