Hi all,

Do we know if this promo is still running? I have logged into the Amex site and got a quote for the insurance ($5.25 per month for $50,000), but nowhere can I see mention of the 20K points.

It finished quite some time ago. I'm sure the date for this was mentioned earlier in this thread.

How long does it take for the policy to cancel? I’ve sent an email to them last Thursday.
Three or four days should do it, but it may take a little longer.

Make sure you've complied with their required format. An email is not sufficient to close your account according to them.

Eventually they will send you a confirmation of cancellation if you have complied with their requirements..

I still haven’t heard back from them. I’ve sent them an email with a scanned letter (with signature) requesting to cancel my policy

I cancelled on Wednesday and received an email confirming the cancelation on Friday. Today I received a letter confirming the same. All up, fairly painless and prompt.

Now hoping the offer re-emerges so we can repeat, though I'm not holding my breath.

If this isn't working I'd send them a letter in the post. Tell them that the policy has already been cancelled and if they make any more charges to your credit card you will send them a bill.

I've used this address before:

PO BOX 1399
North Sydney NSW 2059

And I'd suggest you include something like the following:

'Should you ignore the cancellation notice already provided to you and attempt to debit my credit card for any future payments a charge of $150 shall be levied against you for each attempt.'

I like your style

If one cancels their card and has a new one issued with a new number would this also cancel the direct debit?

It should but you may find that they inappropriately continue to allow debits to the original card for a few weeks. This will mean you'll need to argue with them to reverse the transactions.

Thanks. I’ve followed up with them again via Phone and confirm receipt of my policy closure request. Apparently they were behind in responding back to customers.

This is getting annoying. Cancelled 2 policies and received confirmation letters for both. Then I received a monthly invoice for policy A. Called and was told to ignore. Then today I received a letter that the yearly premium for policy B is a month overdue. The things we do for points!

Just a little info regarding our experience of cancelling.

My hubby and I were both cancelling on the same day, wrote our letters, signed and scanned them in but sent them to different emails.

I sent mine to [email protected] and received a standard "We will process your request blah, blah within 5 working days"

My hubby sent his to [email protected] and received the above, followed by a confirmed cancellation letter within 3 days.

A week later I had not heard anything back, and as I was cancelling my card, resent my letter to the amexlife address, and received cancellation confirmation the next day. Hope that helps others!

Btw - our letter states to cease charging our credit card for payment of the monthly premiums and our cancellation letters specifically state that no furthers debits will apply to our credit card.

thanks for taking the time to post that info - I'm just in the process of writing the 2 letters. This is very handy information :)

Has anyone who paid annually received a refund? My cancellation letter advised they would refund and when I had to call to sort out the mess it was mentioned that a refund had been processed. Haven't received anything on my card, just curious if I need to look out for a cheque.

I got a new promo in the mail but it was only 5k...

I am planning to cancel my life insurance in the near future (I paid for an annual premium in July 2017)
So, just to double check, in the cancellation letter, i need to include my name, policy no, date of birth, signature, and that's it ?
