I purchased jb hifi giftcards at qantaspoints.com today using amex, no surcharge and earn 2 points per $ which credited to qantas account within 24 hours. Additional earn of 1.5 points per dollar on the nab amex, all up 3.5 points per dollar. Happy with 3500 points for my $1000 purchase and no need to pay the 2.75% at JB for amex.

Such a post needs reposting thank you Aussie_flyer
Plus tax return may save you more!

They have to notify you somewhere they charge a surcharge on CC.

they just said "there is a surcharge for using Amex is that fine?" I just said yeah whatever thinking for a $3 water that it would hardly be a few cents it was only when looking at the receipt that I noticed their surcharge..
however I believe is illegal to charge surcharge for more than what it costs to process the cc?

Just checked the ACCC website.

Businesses can choose whether or not to pass on the cost of accepting credit card payments to their customers. However, if you decide to impose a credit card fee, you must ensure your customers are aware—before they enter into the transaction or contract—that a fee will apply and the amount of the fee.

Seems they failed to tell you the amount.

Or if Velocity is your flavour and you have a platinum edge AMEX sign up to local champion and run a few small value transactions through the self service checkout at Woolworths. If no one is playing at that location you wont need many. This bumps earn to 4 pts per $1

Buy as many jb hifi vouchers in-store as you please with no AMEX surcharge.

$1000 purchase will give 4000 VFF points, or 4600 points during the regular 15% bonus transfer promotions.

JB website will allow multiple gift vouchers to be entered so click and collect without having to deal out a number of gift cards to cover the item :D

Only 5vouchers or gift cards. I wanted to buy a new camera (they had 15% off and my son was heading OS so wanted to take advantage of TRS). I discovered a great deal at 5.05pm on Sunday (of course), deal expired at midnight. Thought I'd do a click-and-collect for $1200 but could only put 5x$100 gift vouchers before website said "no mor - use another form of payment". I now have about $700 of jbhifi gift cards I'm not expecting to spend any time soon.

Got slugged at a gas station in ADL a couple of months back using my Amex; they did tell me it would incur the surcharge, think I ended up paying an extra 60c for the privilege.

Are the fees associated with accepting Amex so much greater than VISA? I don't think I've *ever* been slugged in AU (BKK is a different story).

Yes Tom I think the retailers get hit up for higher charges in North America. I use a U.S. Premier Rewards Amex when I am in the U.S. And the points are warehoused for Kris Flyer or others.

London once in 5 attempts cafe's etc.
Sarajevo rarely but will be displayed on door if do accept.
Staying with daughter in unit so haven't tried hotels & noted that great little eateries up alleys usually only CASH. Lunch for 6 350KM ( $300 ) cash only please.

Went to Grand Hyatt Melbourne over the weekend. They have surcharges on onsite credit cards (AMEX, VISA, MC etc).....

I think this is some weirdness thats been with the VA booking system for a while. I have a recollection of not being able to use Amex to book a flight HKT-PER about 18 months ago or so. I rang them, VA, in the end and they apologised and put it through for me at the web price by phone.

The other way might be to use an aggregator site - I had to do this on an RJ flight KUL-BKK because no matter what I did the RJ website wouldn't accept any of my credit cards .... went through an aggregator, saved the 'booking/cc fee' and had no problems.
