AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Last year I stayed at The Burbury in Canberra. When checking out they told me there was an Amex surcharge. I point blank refused to pay, explaining that this was not indicated at the time of booking. They accepted the amex payment without charge. "This time".

Seeking help on how to pay Vicroads Rego via AMEX. Is there a intermediary product (Visa/MC) I can buy for a reasonable fee to pay it? I haven't been able to find one which suits yet which can cover the necessary ~$800 without paying an exorbitant fee.

I'm not sure if Coles will run this promotion again and if it will be in your time frame. They've run MasterCard Gift Card promos twice this year where they refund your $5 fee on Fly Buys points. Could then use your Amex (preferably Edge) to buy the gift cards to then pay your Rego. Bit convoluted though. Not sure if otherwise pay 5% fee if it wasn't being y refunded.
interested if there are any other ways.

I think this method of buying Pre Paid Mastercards during the promo, is very useful to pay for all sorts of things, including the ATO. Especially, on the Edge for 3 :1.

Is it possible to pay in person as much of a pain as that might be nowadays and might cost you more in time and petrol than the extra points you're trying to harvest?

I'll have to give it a go, perhaps with a Westfield XS card.

Just received notification of this by email today.
If you purchase a $100 Coles Gift MasterCard, you’ll collect 1,000 BONUS POINTS or 500 BONUS POINTS with a $50 gift card.* A card purchase fee of $5 applies.
Only available in-store at Coles Supermarkets.
Hurry! Offer ends 8 November.

edit: Just noticed it says it is a targeted offer, "not transferable".

Seems to have been widely spread though

Will be seeing a lot of Coles now with VA SCs (sadly not for 3rd party GCs) and this offer

Coles has MC and Perfect Giftcards (Eftpos) with 2000 bonus flybuy points for every $50 GC. Must be in separate transactions. Don't know if any activation fee.

You will find that this has been discussed extensively previously.

You are limited to 1 card per membership and there are definitely activation fees.

Nope, this is a different offer.

BONUS POINTS will be awarded for each Qualifying Card purchased during the offer period, a maximum of 10 Qualifying Cards per transaction. 500 BONUS POINTS for each $50 Coles Gift MasterCard and 1,000 BONUS POINTS for each $100 Coles Gift MasterCard will be credited to qualifying flybuys members account within 4 weeks of offer end date. You have been specifically selected for this offer and it is not transferable.

EDIT Actually it's not clear which offer whatmeworry is referring to - the targeted one or the one advertised in last week's catalogue.

It it is clear. The catalogue offer which ended today was for Coles MC or the perfect gift card. The latest targeted offer is for the Coles MC only.

Do you mean the XS card works fine at Vicroads or AusPost? I read Auspost don't like it?
It works fine at VicRoads office.

Last time I paid mine the guy behind the counter hates the fact they charge credit card fees and was going to waive it if I used one. In the end I used EFTPOS anyway.

I would assume buying Coles Gift Mastercards as per this targeted offer doesn't count towards the spend for SCs, as they would still be classed as a gift card?
