Fair Work will be reviewing penalty rates in December 2016 so a result should be known by 2017.
It is being handled by them as the issue is too hot to handle by our politicians.

yes and Bendigo bank
verifone vx680 does not support contactless AMEX

verifone vx690 does....but Bendigo don't have access to that model yet zzzzzzzzz

Another Post Office wanted to surcharge the rego and said only VISA/MC. Oh well no surcharge for MC online.

And Commission Members are appointed by the government of the day.

Australia Post don't impose any surcharges, they are simply an agent. It's the principal that makes the decision, not Post.

Sorry should clarify. One of the workers said the fee was imposed by vic roads. Previously vic roads accepted paypal via the postpay site. I did pay the rego with AMEX last year at the suggestion a AFFer.

It looks like vic roads most be clamping down on how payments are done.

Glad I finally got a 1:1 Visa then

Just purchased some coffees at the local Gloria jeans. .25c surcharge for using cards as payment. No Amex/diners Guess we won't be coming back then! 01475973968.jpg

Just got charged a flat fee of $5.00 on a bill of $113.00 at Wildfire in Cairns. Average meal too. Is this legal under the new requirements?

They would have to show that it's actually costing them $5 to process the card payment. So highly unlikely to be justifiable.

I have to admit I haven't followed it closely so excuse my question. Does it have to be actual cost per customer or can they use averages? My meal was on the cheaper side of average so I got the raw end of the deal.

Has to be actual cost (although small businesses have until next year).

Mr B's (pub in Sydney) told me since the regulatory changes they have removed amex surcharges and now have no fees for any cards at all. They were very good about it, and they still take amex happily.

More businesses like this the better.

Don't shop anywhere which surcharges, it only encourages it.

slowly training my wife to only shop with establishments that accept Amex, she is finally understanding how valuable these points can be...
We walk out of a restaurant last week who didn't accept Amex despite the bill coming out in an Amex folder, and she says, guess we won't be coming back here again.

Report them via the amex page.

Amex probably is supplying them the folders and terminal on the basis they take the card, but then verbally denying the card which is a no no based on their terms and conditions.

I went to a place that did the same thing, bill came out in an amex folder, I sent my amex back in it. The waiter came back and told me they don't take it. I even said.. but you display Amex on the folder (and card machine).

After I reported them to Amex. About 3 months later I was back at the same place (not my choice), they now had changed all the folders, card terminal and a sign saying they don't take Amex. So seems like Amex came down on them about it.

I don't see the ACCC actually doing anything with these new laws. I reported Vodafone (2.15%), TPG (3.3ish%) and Rex (4.35%) and got the same template response back from all 3 that said the ACCC don't investigate complaints.

Messages on FB were ignored.

Whole thing seems like a waste of time and public money.
