Amex Platinum $200 "Dining credit" towards a list of Global Restaurants

It's not working for me ... how did you get it to work?

Hi Human,

I just disconnected from the WiFi network at work and used mobile internet and then it worked. I'm guessing that the work WiFi was blocking it.

I rang the Amex call centre the other week to get help activating the offer. I was told it doesn’t apply to Velocity Platinum Cards. Does this sound right?

It's a perk of the Platinum Charge card

Anyone been able to find a way to use the overseas credit if you are not travelling... ie gifting it to friends overseas... :S
I believe @sudoer had a Japan option if you plan on travelling there soon as the Japanese restaurants will take the payment upfront.

Yep, Pocket Concierge handles all the Japan options. Anything listed on the site will trigger the credit.

You preselect your courses and pay up front - these get charged once the restaurant verifies the reservation.

You can then order additional items on the day (drinks etc) which also get charged back to you via Pocket Concierge after the visit. These charges are also eligible for the dining credit IME. In effect you can use two year's worth of credits on one visit.

I've visited 4 restaurants booked through Pocket Concierge and they've all been well equipped for non Japanese speakers.

I’m in Japan late April but the booking window with Pocket Concierge is only 3 months. Anyone aware of a way to book almost 4 months out to utilise this double dip?

I haven't looked at this, but I would check out whether it's possible to move bookings without penalty...

You could make a March booking and shift it to April in January.

Thanks for the information about Pocket Concierge, that's incredibly useful and means my 2024 credit won't go to waste as I'll be in Japan in March 2025. Depending on how I access the Pocket Concierge site the list of restaurants seems to filter down - just confirming any restaurant on Pocket Concierge is eligible for the dining credit?

To my knowledge yes. I believe every restaurant on Pocket Concierge has (usually multiple) course menus you need to pick from at the time of booking, and prepayment is then taken.

That payment being processed by Pocket Concierge is what triggers the credit. Would recommend booking at least a week before the end of the year to give ample time for settlement.

Unsure why the list of restaurants would change depending on how you're accessing the site - do you mean mobile v PC?

The Tokyo neighbourhood filter is a bit annoying but otherwise the list has always shown consistently for me

I realised I've never used this despite many years of Charge Card membership.

We just recently ate at Gimlet, Nomad and Kisume. lol - could have saved $200.

Amazing, thanks Sudoer! Good to know. It was more differences when accessing Pocket Concierge via Google vs Amex then searching for keyword 'Osaka' for example that triggered the difference. It might just be an IT thing rather than an eligibility thing I believe.

Just used it to gift for a friend. Much appreciate you chasing this one down for all of us otherwise its wasted.

I was looking into US options but no such luck (all the gift card / delivery options are third party so won't trigger the credit is my fear).

I used the credit in Taipei and credited on the next bill
