AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

Productive conversation with Amex tonight

Confirmed Reserve still available as a complimentary (though I think I'll wait to see what has happened to my Veda first)
And ordered an additional Plat Charge card in my name (for statement credit purposes) and received 5K MR for doing so

I had a good conversation with them today too whilst ordering a supplementary Reserve for the 5k MR.

I gave them good feedback on the spending tool that is now available online for the Platinum Charge card.

I got a call from Accor yesterday seeking my renewal. I was offered the Accor Plus for a year for $259 vs $329 usually. They also offered to let me keep my Platinum status which might be of interest - although I've only had 3 stays with them in the last year - not likely to qualify under my own steam given I direct all my stays to Hilton & SPG.

They did highlight the 50% off dining in their restaurants even if not staying at the hotel. I'm not sure personally I'd use it that much - nothing says "I love you" on date night quite as much as taking Mrs Albyd to my local Accor hotel for a half price dinner. I know it's each to their own on this count. Anyone else get good use of the dining discounts?

Is the offer I've received any different to what everyone else has been receiving? I'd read about the discounted Accor Plus renewal but hadn't heard of them offering to allow us to keep Platinum for an extra year.

I'm inclined not to renew at this stage.

My year ends in February. I don't stay at ACCOR very often, However, if they offer me at least 50% discount fee (and keep platinum) I may take it. I wonder how far out they may make contact.

I tend to not answer calls unless I recognise the calling number, so may never get the offer anyway.

Number is from Wollongong NSW (according to my iPhone anyway). My $1200 annual fee just charged so I think Accor call you as you're about to fall off their system due to Amex not renewing you.

Thanks for the information, albyd.

The Accor Plus website quotes the membership at $385. Where does the $329 come from?

Mine doesn't expire until March, will be happy to renew at $259 if offered at that time. Get a bit of use with the restaurants, the free night pays for itself. Will be a stretch for me to retain platinum (would make gold though) so if status is offered would be a great benefit.

Im very happy to hear they are offering platinum as well. Ill probably take up the offer as Ive been using the dining discount.

I would take the offer if they include platinum as well, otherwise whilst it is a good price it is the lounge access for platinum that is actually worth more.

pretty sure they're offering plat to all who say yes. i only stayed maybe 6 nights in total the year before. Also, don't forget to dob someone in to get your free breakfast voucher for 2 ! They really love doing it (and it must work to some degree) I just called the other day to check on a booking and out of no where the agent asks if I could give them a contact number of a friend who'd be interested in joining. They were giving away wine vouchers or something, I politely declined - kind regret that now. ;)

I thought I'd replied to this last night, but it doesn't appear to have saved to the site.

I got a call from Accor Plus yesterday, my membership apparently expired (has been free for at least a couple of years) and the current offer was $259 and retention of Accor Platinum status. I took up the offer although I would retain platinum anyway based on the nights stayed this past year.

The disappointing thing is, there appears to be a manual process by Accor Plus when a membership expires, to either renew it or cancel it, and in the meantime the account is in limbo...thus when I login to the Accor Hotels website it does not recognise my status, any of my stays in the past year (says no activity) and all of my points are missing and it has been this way for 3 weeks with no email/correspondence from Accor which is a pretty poor way to treat a platinum member in my view.

Strange - my Accor Plus membership (was free with Amex Charge Platinum in the past) was expiring at the end of November 2016. I received a call from Accor Plus last week asking if I wanted to renew for $259. They also mentioned Accor Platinum status but I already qualified anyway.

I took up their offer and later in the day the AccorHotels site correctly showed my status expiring 30/11/2017 (before it was still showing 30/11/2016 although I did re-qualify for Platinum a couple of months earlier). Same membership number. New card yet to be seen.

On a sidenote according to the new Accor membership rules, status acquired in 2016 should last until 31/12/2017 so my Accor status seems to be linked to my Accor Plus validity, God only knows how points for Platinum (re)qualification will be handled in the next 13 months!!

sounds like they got it right for you, another day has passed and my Accor Hotels account still shows no status whatsoever (should be platinum given the 120+ nights in the last year), nor does it show the ~50,000 points that were in my account. And I can't login to the Accor Plus site, just getting a spinning disc after entering credentials. sigh

I'm thinking of renewing my Accor Plus membership, but I would only do it now if there is a free night available at a particular hotel/date.
Accor Plus is most unhelpful and are telling me I can only check availability if I renew first

Would anyone here who is a member be able to check availability for me? I can send you a pm with the details. Thanks!

I didnt renew found it hard to get availability and to not be able to check one hotel when u have grabbed another out of desperation is rediculous! What sort of system doesnt allow the agents to check availability?
