AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

Hi Everyone
Just another question
Is the reserve card that come's with this treated as a credit card?
For example: If I already have the plat edge and the explorer, if I apply for the reserve it will get knocked back due to me already having 2 credit cards?
cheers

Yep - I've got the charge, edge and reserve with my explorer application rejected for having too many cards.

Ok, thanks for that
I won't be able to get the charge then, the current combo is too valuable for me to break it. Without the additional reserve to get the travel credit, it's a deal breaker for me.

A question please on the Plat Edge that my mate is looking at. Does the "$200 Travel Credit" mean to say that you get the $200 after the first year, ie once you have paid the fee in the 2nd year?

Hi Guys
Just checking with the plat charge
That accor status is not included?

The fine print says
Club Carlson[SUP]SM12[/SUP], Starwood Preferred Guest[SUP]®13[/SUP] and Shangri-La Golden Circle Jade Membership[SUP]14[/SUP] and Hilton HHonors[SUP]TM[/SUP] Gold status[SUP]15[/SUP].

I am new to the world of hotel status and not sure if any of the above actually covers accor?
Cheers!

Yes, Sadly its gone now. Went last year, replaced with Hilton Gold instead.

I've looked and failed to find on the Amex site where it mentions anything about a free second credit card when you get the platinum charge card.

Can anyone point me to this information please? I'm interested in finding out what the deal actually is and what credit cards you can get for free.

My interest has been renewed after reading this article which suggests the sign-up bonus is now 120k MR points American Express Platinum Charge Card - Point Hacks Review

I am sure it is a reserve card. It comes with a $400 travel credit and that's about it . You need to call up and ask for it, and it counts as a credit card, so if you have 2 normal credit cards you need to cancel one of them.

Hi Daver,

I didn't read about it on the website, I think it's more of a hidden benefit. You need to sign up by paper (I found a scanned PDF with which to sign up). I can look for the application form, see if I have it lying around somewhere.

Regards,
Jaian

... You need to sign up by paper ...

... If someone could link to the details of this Reserve card, I'd appreciate it ...

You just need to telephone AMEX and they send you the application for the Reserve card.

Edit: Once I had received my Charge card, I telephoned for the Reserve card application

I recall a link to the Reserve PDF application being posted on AFF in the past

As far as I can tell online, that is a legacy product and no longer offered.

... as it was when I received the Platinum Charge card, and then applied for, and received, the Reserve. A phone call should sort it out.

Edit: Companion card for the Charge card

Does anyone have the details or earn rate and all the benefits of this card?

Just got off the phone with Amex. The lady also mentioned this card. I asked for the above information and she started rattling off things that just didn't sound right, such as free international airfare. The Amex site doesn't contain details of the benefits as far as I can see. All seems a little bit poor that for their second best card on offer this information is so hard to get hold of.

Reserve:

$400 travel credit (used to be free flight)
Same points earn as Plat Charge.

That's about it.

You used to be able to redeem a short haul international airfare e.g.. Mel to AKL
