AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

Hi all.
Thought I’d ask the question here.
Regarding the $300 Plat Dining credit.
Has anyone had success with the credit purchasing an online gift card from any of the Melbourne restaurants?

Many thanks.
Bill
No, but it did take ages for my in restaurant credit to come through.

Are you worried you haven't earned the credit, or checking first?

I thought the T&Cs were dine in or order from their online delivery / pick up services?

I’ve not used it..
silly me, was slow off the mark now when I’ve remembered about it and gone to book I’ve been caught out in Chrissy/New Years shutdowns and competing with other events.

Most of the restaurants have online gift cards, but there’s always the uncertainty if these count as a purchase at the establishment or if it goes via a third party.

I can't recall if it was this thread or another, but the question came up about booking two nights at a FHR hotel. One night in say your name and the second in a partners using their supp card. Idea being to get the $100 USD credit twice.

MrsDaver6 and I recently did just this at the Ritz Carlton in Perth. First night my booking and second here. We were prepared to possibly need to change rooms. At check-in I explained we had two bookings in two names. We were pro-actively told that there would be no need to change rooms. Also to my surprise the two credits were just combined into one large one for the entire stay. I was expecting to at least need to split it between bookings.

So all in all, a very good outcome and adds a lot of value.

Lets hope they let us use the flight credits at HN again as I have so many airline credits from the last 2 years I wont get a chance to use the ones expiring this year.
but i need a new fridge so wuld be fab for me

Guys, anyone has knowledge regarding platinum reserve card as companion cards? Contacted amex and they said reserve card membership is under Ascent not Ascent premium so can't transfer points to QFF but Overview of Amex Membership Rewards Transfer Partners - Australian Frequent Flyer in this guide it says as companion cards reserve card also be Ascent premium, I got confused
My account pools Edge and Reserve MR points to single Ascent Premium total on Charge
Business Accelerator only to Ascent

Hi mate so you mean reserve MR can be combined with plati charge MR?
Thats right
My account is quite longstanding but hopefully others can confirm still the case
As I'm sure you know, the travel credit attached to the Reserve is not offered when Reserve is now issued as a fee-free complimentary card, so it's just about possible there have been other changes

Yes I can confirm that

Perhaps what the agent meant is that if held on its own, Reserve defaults to the 'Ascent' flavour of Membership Rewards. But if you also hold a higher-tier card like that Plat Charge, then it can be linked to Ascent Premium while you continue to hold that higher-level card.

Update - connected my reserve to Ascent premium now i think the reserve and charge card share same MR account.

Today I also paid $1200 annual fee(with CPA discount) but sadly no $400 TC on reserve for me as i was toooo late. Dunno if they will give other benefits or something back to reserve after COVID

Interestingly when I checked today for the Global Dining Collection,
it says
Thank you for your interest in the Global Dining Collection benefit. We are currently working on some changes, so be sure to check back soon for updates. For any immediate questions, please call the number on the back of your Card.

Frankly I don't know... but let's hope they are making it more like the US cards so that we can make Global Dining bookings via resy.com

The Reserve TC would normally appear on the anniversary of opening the Reserve (if eligible) - which probably wouldn't be at the exact same time as the Plat Charge, as you need the Charge to apply for the Reserve.

I asked the Plat Concierge what the point of Global Dining Collection was and they said all it really means is that they've "mystery shopped" the restaurants to make sure they're ones worth recommending to their cardholders. I remember in the past there used to be things like free starters or drinks etc, so hopefully something like that comes back. Best I've done was get an 'AMEX table' reserved at last minute which had one of the best views, but don't know if that's specifically a GDC thing.
