I have found that for some of my eligible purchases, I have received the $10 credit but never received an earlier email that said the credit was triggered.

I have had same experience. Fortunately I haven't had the reverse - trigger email but no credit.:)

Same occurs every year.

I see a lot of complaints this year, but I've had no issues registering my cards, nor has my partner, or my sister for that matter. We've also had no issues shopping small and receiving credits. Maybe next year will be my undoing.

Multiple purchases at Bent spoke for me. Liquor shops all over the place including Plonk, Prohibition and Corks. Plus multiple fruit and veg shops. And, although I didn't make use of the opportunity, many restaurants.
Grog and fruit? Must have been an...... interesting.... trip :)

Only just discovered Plonk myself. Incredible range but all those $30 six packs are a bit of an eye waterer/opener.

It was. Bentspoke was a highlight :)

$30 for a 6 pack seems cheap. Try this one at around $80 for a 4 pack at Plonk:

Great to split over 4 x $20 small shop purchases :)

I'd need an assistant to keep track of all that :p
I have to keep track of all my purchases for Shop Small in Apple notes. With 6 cards I can't recall what I've spent and where, and if I've hit the 5 purchases yet. Surely those with 10+ cards need a spreadsheet? lol

I bought a few gift cards for spending later, $25 seems to be popular. I know the T&Cs so 'no', but it always works for me. I don't feel bad about it 'cos the business gets the money anyway.

Any tips on interesting cost-effective spends?

Spreadsheet for me. I have 55 shops so far, but haven’t started alcohol yet. The only card not yet used (for shop small) is the one I left in MrsMacs purse!

Any tips on which gift cards which can meet the shop small bucket ?
I don't think the nature of the gift card matters, unless I'm missing something? You just need to spend $20+ at a qualifying merchant. That said, I wouldn't have thought many small businesses carry gift cards except maybe their own or a newsagent with big-brand ones?

The obvious gift card in Sydney is Opal top-up and in Mexico Myki top-up.

As usual Australia gets stuck with an inferior offer. In the UK the limit is 10.
But it's even worse than that as the offer now appears to be targeted.

Just another reason to continue to use the churn and burn strategy. Nothing special about AMEX.
