The targeted offer has put a dampner on my shop small festivities this year to the point I've only got credits for my 1 card eligible from inadvertent spend for food...

I’m sort of the same. Usually get into it with big spreadsheets and go on shopping drives. This year I just can’t be bothered really.

Can't believe things have gone *so* downhill in all the years I've had an (multiple) AmEx card(s). I used to sing their praises especially with their customer service but it seems like this promo was the "straw that broke the camel's back"?

Exactly my position. I used to praise Amex non stop but the last few years have been terrible. The introduction of the live chat seemed to be a big turning point. It’s been the absolute worst form of customer service I’ve ever experienced.

Deval for me is the biggest negative.

In my eyes basically put amex on par with visa rewards wise

Made my goals of long haul premium travel seem twice as hard

My thoughts, exactly. It is twice as hard.

I only use MR points for transfer to airlines. It was 1:1 before the big devaluation. Now 2 x MR points gets only 1 x FF point. I have started reducing my AMEX cards and at the next renewal will probably be down to zero.

The only saving grace is that i can only earn kris miles on amex and there are virtually no other credit card that can earn kris miles
I also have a qff credit card as well, however while both earn at 1pt per $1, the redemption requirements for qff are much higher, so kris it is for me

It would have definitely been adios to amex had this not been the case

Yes good point. That was the final nail really. I’d given up on them before the deval!

You are aware of the dragon card? Can earn a 0.825 Kris miles per dollar with birthday bonus. Not as good as Amex for non government spend but close enough for universal acceptance.

YMMV

Yes , i used to have dragon qff ,
I too did look at the kris version.

I did weigh it up.and assumed 1pt per dollar on amex was still worth paying the fee for it.

However as many have found the small shop targettinf has made amex one step more not worth it

For those in BNE you can go use your card at:
Perry House News
Casino News
Southbank News

Casino News kicked up a stink and would only let me use 1 AMEX to top up. So don't go in thinking you can get more than 1 card. She said they lose 1.5% because that is what AMEX charge. I told her 'sure no problem add it to my charge', her reply 'No we lose more than that'. Hmmm ok why did you tell me 1.5% then???

I made two transactions on my first visit and a few days later a single transaction.

No had issue with any of them.

There is a sign that says a 1% fee may apply for Amex transactions but I was not charged it on any of my three transactions.

I must have went at a bad time 🤣

We have meandered our way to 22 out of a possible 30 credits this year. We should complete the last 8 over the next few days. We had been geared up to get 65 credits but with only 6 out of 13 cards getting the offer most of our planning has proven unnecessary. We haven't even topped up our Opal cards yet. No 'wow' or adrenaline factor this year.

Went to a cafe which appeared on the Shop Small Merchant Map this morning and when I went to pay they stated they didn't accept AMEX. Paid using my Mastercard and then got onto AMEX Live Chat, and the agent managed to take my details and pass it on so I could get the $10 credit manually. Does AMEX in this case contact the merchant or do they update the map?
