They didn’t provide any of us notice before the rate was changed. They are blaming it on SPG though.

I doubt it is the truth, and this is just simply not enough and not acceptable.

I would assume AMEX AU will not in talk with Marriott to get a deal on the transfer rate. It should be the whole 'AMEX GLOBAL' or AMEX US to get a master contract signed with Marriott on the transfer rate. Then, AMEX AU/UK/... will work out the individual rate based on a couple of factors, such as annual fees, currency exchange rate and so on. This is making sense especially when considering the MR points can be transferred to other country with a conversion rate applied. That said, AMEX side should know the information well ahead. Don't forget, the details on the new co-branded credit card in US market are available long time ago.

So, AMEX AU could not just say they know nothing about it, could not say they got 'surprised' by SPG as well.

I may got it wrong. But it is at least what I thought. ;)

I wonder if the Marriott transfer rate is different depending on the Amex program you are on. e.g. DJ Amex + Gateway is 3:2 but Ascent/Ascent Premium is 1000:1200 ..... Just a guess

My most recent statement received days ago. No such information on the statement. No such a thing in previous one as well.

Since they are rolling out the official notification, I guess, before they notify me in writing, they should apply the old rate to my account? :D:D:D

Next statement will be well after the new program kick-in date.

It has to be on the statement of the 'dominant' account, so the Charge if you're getting Ascent Premium, the Edge (for example) if you've linked an Explorer to that, and so on...

My two data points:

Explorer statement dated 29 July - Noted as 3:2
Platinum Reserve statement dated 25 July - nothing noted.

And no, they are not linked, so I have separate Gateway & Ascent accounts.

understand.

Edge linked to Charge on Ascent P, none of the statements have the notification.

Latest statement received on weekend, nothing there.

Anyone can provide some inputs here? For those said have received the notifications, which reward program is the card link to?

Maybe as kamchatsky said, different programs got different rates. o_O

Update: I got a call back from Amex, who said they'd spoken to SPG/Marriott and that the manual points transfer I requested last week would go through at 2 MR:1 SPG! Hooray! I was told it'd take 7 days, but rest assured it will still be before the merger.

No points have left my Amex account yet, but fingers are crossed!

I should follow up my call with them.

Still waiting on my call back

did you have to give them the number of points to transfer?

Good news! I just checked my SPG account and the points have shown up -- there you go folks, they really can do it! :)

Yes, I told them that a week ago when they first called to ask about it. (Same staff member called me back this week.)

Someone not local as far as I could tell, both when I lodged my initial complaint (late at night) and the subsequent calls back (daytime).

Just got off the phone on my nth call to Amex. Said they can`t do a manual transfer.
Also said transfer to SPG will come online on 21/8 @ 2:1 .asked her to double check ,she referred to email and confirmed. said can`t forward the email as its an internal communique but left notes on my account. Said nothing mentioned about Marriott.
A previous CSR also said SPG wil be coming back online.
Anyone else know anything else about this?

2:1??? This has all just been a complete f up, and there is no way I believe anything anyone from AMEX says, until things are back online and it is in plain black and white to see on the AMEX MR Portal.

They seem ill informed. None of the people i spoke to on numerous calls were even aware that SPG was being eliminated and that Marriott would be the new option- leave alone know anything about the new program etc.
