AMEX - SPG Transfer option after August 2018

Just another week until August . Looking at empty my 200K MR points balance to SPG-Marriott . Just want to check-in and see what everyone strategy with MR balances

Going to upgrade existing Cat5 to Cat 6 and redeem another Cat 8 package + 120k miles AA or 132k miles United.

Planning travel to Europe for next July but not seeing any SPG/Marriott award availability yet for the dates I’m interested in.

You can redeem 90k SPG for 120k AA/AS, etc. or 132k United Miles, and get 7 night current cat 1-5 hotel stay...? There's miles and hotel stay in the current travel packages.

How long does it take for miles to post? Might have a closer look at that. If my travel is for next year though, thought Was at risk of Marriott re-casting the deal and potentially reducing its value. Or is that only for certificates that haven’t been redeemed?

My SPG points have posted pretty much within 24hrs.

On another note, do you need to ring up to transfer SPG points between family accounts? My wife's points just posted and wanted to transfer them into my account (and yes the accounts have been active with the same address for 30+ days).

No, you can do it online.

Have redeemed 3 travel packages this week for travels planned over next 12 months( 2 tier 4-5 & 1 cat 8). All to AA miles- 360000 in total. Was tempted to go united but need miles for a Hawaii and it awkward to use star alliance to get there from Perth . Planning to redeem 1 more before end of the month .

Pleasant surprise that it is not right at the start of August, since they announced the merger months ago and have now had some time to prepare, I was expecting that it would be at the beginning of August.

I reluctantly did my last SPG transfer last night to lock in the current transfer rate. Still prefer to use MR points for flight awards but usually need somewhere to stay when I get there. Might as well lock in the current rate.

Has there been an official announcement from AMEX regarding the last date to transfer MR to SPG at 2 to 1? Is it 31 July or is it now 18 August?

Spent some time last night running some numbers. If UA/AA/Alaska airline points are the goal, then surely its best to transfer MR to SPG now and redeem 7 night travel package. I also took into account the difference in redemption rates for UA/AA/Alaska v SQ/CX etc on AU routes. Did everyone come to the same conclusion?

with this option gone, the DJ Amex card loses a lot of its value. Anyone have any ideas what to do with DJ points after ?

Redeem all DJ MR to Spg now. Then swap to earn Qantas points or cancel. Not worth earning DJ MR anymore.

Agreed.

Still a great little card to have in the pocket for QFF earning at supermarkets and petrol stations, that's if you hold onto AMEX cards and aren't a churner.
