AMEX - SPG Transfer option after August 2018

Thanks to this great forum I just got another pleasent surprise in the way of 40,000 DJ MR points, this will now take me up to 100,000k SPG points when I transfer them out.

I'm not sure what to do now, hold onto them and book 6 nights in the high category on the cheap in the next few months, or take a punt on a category 8 travel package for 290,000 Marriott points, ahhhhh it's doing my head in!!

You can redeem 90k SPG for 120k AA/AS, etc. or 132k United Miles, and get 7 night current cat 1-5 hotel stay...? There's miles and hotel stay in the current travel packages.

Is there anyone who would send me link so I can fully understand this SPG miles and hotel stay deals.... I have plenty of MR and have transferred lots over the years to AA...never took advantage of this hotel/AA combo ! Unless you have a specific (old) Cat 8 redemption, I'd go for the cat 5 travel package with the full 120k miles for 270k MR or try to book the (new) Cat 8's in mid August. Are you hoping the old Cat 8's map to the new Cat 8's? I think there is only a very very small chance of that happening.

I managed to transfer some MR points to SPG this morning. SPG account was still linked form previous transfers. At least my current MR balance of 28 points indicates the MR points have left my Amex account. Will need to wait to see if they hit my SPG account though.

I did two transfers since last week and both hit the SPG account after about two days.

Unless you have a specific (old) Cat 8 redemption, I'd go for the cat 5 travel package with the full 120k miles for 270k MR or try to book the (new) Cat 8's in mid August. Are you hoping the old Cat 8's map to the new Cat 8's? I think there is only a very very small chance of that happening.

I'm not sure what will happen, so if I did take the gamble and went for the cat 5 travel package with full 120k miles but they decided to refund the certificate less the equivalent miles (so let's say 270k less 120k), I would only have enough Marriott points then for 3 nights at a top tier hotel.

It's really a gamble at the moment either way.

Redeem all DJ MR to Spg now. Then swap to earn Qantas points or cancel. Not worth earning DJ MR anymore.

I already have the plat edge on the premium ascent program (qantas xfer available) so it wouldn't be worth doing. DJ MR does go 1:1 with hilton pts, will probably look into that if they don't offer something new once SPG goes..

Mine is linked via Plat Edge Ascent program. I don't currently hold the DJ Amex MR, cancelled that one a while ago.

Understood, has the Ascent MR program had maintenance done? In the DJ Amex MR portal it would seem there may be an issue from the maintenance that linked travel partners have been lost.

Not finished yet, apparently, so maybe things will have been resolved by tomorrow?

Just been told by a customer representative that we can no longer transfer to SPG.

I asked when this was communicated with customers and she said that SPG had been communicating this, ah no they have detailed when the merge will happen but have not said partner transfers can not take place during this time, AMEX should have advised of a date when they received. Oh well I'm sorry about that, bit late now isn't it .
