AMEX - SPG Transfer option after August 2018

I put in a sternly-worded complaint last night on the phone, and got a call from Amex this afternoon asking me how many points I wanted to transfer from Amex to SPG, and said they would try to work with SPG to get a manual transfer put through (though no promises) — step in the right direction at least!

Let us know how you go .thanks

rang Amex this evening and said that on-line transfer to SPG had vanished as an option and whether they could assist over the phone to complete transfer.....I told them that I knew SPG was changing on 18/8 but would like to redeem at old rates...ie 2 for 1....."I can help with that....how many to transfer sir....200k ..thats = 100k SPG. ok" thank you ..." all gone through" s/be in account 2 - 3 days...
Seemed too easy after reading all the posts...I will definitely report back.....

I've now spoken to 3 customer reps on the phone, and was sterner then I have been the last 2 times - still reckon nothing they can do and that this was enforced by Marriott - rubbish!!

Also tried just calling up. Same as others here, blaming it on SPG and saying there’s nothing they can do. I lodged my complaint and feedback, I doubt we’ll see any outcome. May be a good reason to argue for a retention bonus.

If you happy with a retention bonus get to talk to a team leader or sup , as long as system allow it they will give it to you .

Lucky seems to think it's not worth worrying about.

Interestingly the transfer rate in the US was 3:1 not 2:1 like we had here. One of the few things about our version of the Platinum card that's better than the US one.

For US Amex users there is no change, but it's a different story for Australian Amex cardholders.

Well his theory is that it's a terrible use of MR points, his valuations are 2.2c for SPG and 1.7c for MR so using them for SPG is only getting 0.43c of value per MR point.

Calculation is different for Australia but similar, maybe there are better uses...

For Australian Amex holders, there aren't as many transfer partners as the US MR program, you can't compare the US vs the AUS MR program.
Amex transfers to SPG were definitely one of the more lucrative users of MR, even more so when Marriott took over SPG.

180,000 MR = 90,000 SPG =270,000 Marriott Points, that used to yield a 7 night hotel certificate and anywhere between 80,000-132,000 airline miles by redeeming a Marriott travel package.

Or you can use 180,000 MR to convert to 180,000 QFF/Velocity/Asia Miles/Krisflyer miles. Can you suggest a better use of 180,000 MR points?

I think if SPG wasn't a lucrative transfer partner, you wouldn't be getting the reaction in this current thread...

And as recent as 1 year ago or so, when United had the extra bonus points, 180,000 MR = 90,000 SPG = 270,000 Marriott Points yielded a 150,000 United miles + 7 night Cat1-5 hotel certificate. 150,000 United Miles was enough for 5x one way J class ticket to SE Asia. Or 2x return ticket, make use of excursionist perk. Good old days.

Yep now its 50,000 United miles one way in J to SE Asia compared with 30,000 miles some 12 months ago. Its now 25,000 miles one way to SE Asia in Y . 40,000 miles got you one-way in F too :(

With the United devaluations, I decided to blow 140,000 miles flying JFK-BKK one-way in F on NH/TG later this year.

If you're buying Mariott travel packages now I think you're pretty brave since there's no guarantee they'll even be honoured under the new program.

im sure they will be honoured, how, no one knows

How long to family transfers take between SPG accounts? We initiated a transfer from my wife's account to mine last Wednesday & received confirmation, but no points have been transferred across accounts - should I follow this up?
