But if the answer is NO, what harm is it in saying NO. they couldnt be held liable for a loss by saying no could they ?
i dunno. If they advise you are not covered and you go and pay $300 for another policy, do you have a claim for the bad advice and the extra expense of a policy you didn't need? So in that respect I guess the call centre agents want to reply as far as possible on the PDS without providing some sort of legal interpretation.
My parents got some bad advance when they inquired about their CC insurance in a bank branch. The staff told them hospital cover was limited to $50 a day in total. Nothing else. They went and bought a comprehensive policy elsewhere (at great expense). Thankfully we were in the cooling off period and I was able to explain the $50 was for daily expenses - not for medical treatment!
