Happy to report I moved $450 worth of flights this weekend from qf to DJ. People may say that status matched people are scum, but I am prepared to put my personal money behind the status match.

That's the best kind of scum :)

Congratulations LiamR!
I'm with you mate, done the hard way... BIS, BFOD, no PE bar two tasters and one op-up to boost the SC balance, and no international travel.
Current SC balance YTD is 1223.
I've had a few Plat flights, inc MEL-DRW rtn, and they've been great.

Enjoy pal, you've earned it!

Congrats Liam and welcome to the club.

It takes some real hard yakka (well bum in seat anyway) to crack past the 1000 SC mark.

Time to flex those DYKWIA muscles and reap the rewards!

Look forward to seeing you at the pointy end :p

BTW 760 SC's in 4 months and a total of 1148 for the previous 12 months and boy my arms are tired (bad joke, I know)

What you think life is easier for QF WP with 3,250 SC last year? Oh my aching butt and back.

Bottom line is anybody who earns top tier status on any airline has had to do a LOT of butt in the seat miles. We are bothers and sisters in the same club, no matter what airline we buy seats from and what FFer program we post points to. That is what AFF is all about and why I'm very pleased to have found this non carrier aligned community.

AFFers rule!

Thanks everybody for the congrats. I just had my first flight as a newly minted 'PLAT'

Unfortunatley the supermodels that normally carry you from the lounge, to the aircraft clocked off an hour before my flight so I had to walk. I did however...

Recieve a free drink off the drink cart,
Moved to 2C and given PE service.
Placed a seat block for 2A
Checked on every now and again, with the obvious "We love having you onboard.... Wow, you must fly more than I do" phrases.

Sadly, the flight was full of bogans, luckily the service more than made up for it.

Now if only we could get all the aircraft refitted to the new cabin!

Congrats Liam!

Wow the onboard service for virgin plats beats QF handsdown.

Aren't all flights too/from the GC full of bogans? Be thankful it wasn't JQ otherwise you'd have had rednecks too ;)

The entire city is full of brogans.

(Except for all the AFF members.)

Apparently gangsters now too - a friend has 6 bullet holes in his car after is was parked in the street in Benowa one night!

'tis what happens when State Gov'ts ignore the need for extra policing in what is predominently a tourist town. Chiang Mai had a special 'tourist" police force 17 years ago and a quarter of a centry ago, I can recall an increased heavy police presence in Port Vila every time a cruise ship docks.

It's not a big secret, tourists let their hair down, tourists attract blowins, blowins are regularly happy to engage in less than savoury activities and in reality, the town is "home" to neither and they typically just don't care.

New member here.......Plat it is...1242 SC's, so now pitching for partner Gold.

Had my first flights as plat last week. Plat status didn't print onto the boarding passes (just had velocity number) so had to dig my card (Gold one......no new one arrived yet) out again for Lounge and Priority Boarding.

Printed out ok on the cardboard boarding passes in Syd, but didn't notice any difference in service to before Plat arrived (not that I was expecting anything, service normally very good anyway).

Was in PE on the way back.......not as good as it used to be with the vastly reduced inflight menu.........those new New Yorker sangas are like cardboard :(

My first flight since the new status and very happy thus far

First my seat selection was in row 5 when I checking in online. No bad but!!!

Then as I was boarding the flight they changed my seat selection to row 3, getting better Then as I am in flight and the seat belt sign is still on they come up to me and tell me to go into row 2 as I will be more comfortable and have the row to myself, premimum economy seats!!! Great

Then and just now. What would you like sir. Coffee is the response. Anything else? No thanks, are you sure because we are not charging you today. Love it And then and just now again they bring my coffee out and give me a cookie!!!
What a great start to the day.

I love platinum.
Yeah.

update, as i wrote previously the flight to adelaide was great, Adelaide Lounge 10 out of 10. Very personal and couldn't do enough for me, the flight home at 2.05 adel to melba was ordinary in comparison. NOTHING, no seat change nothing special at all. Worse part was i was now expecting it. Even boarding, they called people with special needs first. OK. but they it was Prem, Gold Plat and everyone else all at the same time. That ****s me. Fly in the US and they 100% make sure all priority people are boarded first then they board the rest. Its military style. Actually even the priority scanning at melbourne airport is not policed. every tom dick and harry walks through un checked.

So while i love platinum my issue is as follows.

NO CARD YET.. My wife however got her new SILVER membership over a week ago, VA staff tell me that it hasn't been sent yet, don't like being bull****ted to.

Priority boarding and melbourne airport priority scanning needs to be better administered and policed.

Would be good to understand what instructions the crew have been given in relation to Platinum members.either they do it all the time and have consistency or dont bother. All Premimum economy seats should automatically be filled if available with Platinum members followed by Gold members. Again something they do quite well in the US.

overall not bad, see what happens next week when i go to sydney newcastle followed by Brisbane and Perth...
Thanks

Ah, Apart from your entitled 4 upgrades per year, I don't believe general op-ups are a written benefit for anyone. Be grateful if you get it, don't expect it.

Platinums have special needs don't they?? They need assistance to get their egos aboard   :p ;)

Actually, I've needed to check mine in as it's well in excess of the carry on limit. Thank goodness for the new 69kg allowance - I'd be up for excess baggage fees if I still had the 32kg limit those poor Golds have to put up with. :p:lol:;)

Actually, no they shouldn't. That's not an advertised benefit. It's not something you're entitled to expect and they would certainly go broke selling no P/E seats on any flight if they did that. The fact people like you sook when you are given it as a favour on one occasion and then don't get it on a future occasion will probably mean the airline will have no choice but to frown on the practice all together in the name of "consistency." Take a good hard think about what you are demanding.
