Angry about proposed travel ban exemption for footballers

Apparently it has been decided that conscientious objection (!), or religious beliefs and there was a third one but I forget what it is, is a good enough excuse for them not to fulfil the original requirement to be vaccinated, which seem to have changed now because well they’re kind of like gods and we can’t do without them
Well no it’s the opposite. Those reasons apply to everyone - including football players So they are not getting special treatment on that issue. They are getting the same as any adult who refuses to be vaccinated. Why? For their own ignorant or ill informed reasons.

The Queensland medical officer made it a requirement so yes they are getting special treatment if they are not fulfilling that requirement.

They can make any requirement they want but the law takes priority so if the law applies to everyone then by definition it’s not special treatment.

It comes down to the conditions of the contract they agreed to. It seems as if they decided to cross out conditions they didn’t like after they arrived. It will be interesting to see how this all works out for these boofheads..

But they weren't breaking SA laws where they were training.Just that the AFL says they should train using Victorian laws.

I understand that the jury is still out on that bit.

As usual some excuse will be made to try and cover up the incessant indiscretions that go on day in and day out.

They are supposed to be an AFL club aren't they not an SA club? Its a national league. So they should be following AFL rules & guidelines (where they do not conflict with state laws).

They are not Victorian rules or SA rules or WA rules. If this is their excuse, its just weasel words on behalf of those who choose to do their own thing..

I do not accept they are just stupid and made a mistake, more just outright arrogance.

I thought the issue was an interstate team that was supposed to be self isolating but were our training - I must have heard wrong

They are South Aussies but returning from interstate to resume the AFL. They were in the 14 days Self isolation period required here. We can have up to 10 people in a group in SA, always have done. The AFL, because the um, nannies in Melb won't relax any of the restrictions yet, have stated that interstate teams have to follow the same rules that Vic AFL teams have to follow, which is only 2 people. Because of fairness to the Vic AFL teams not being able to train. Of course that clearly proves the AFL is so Vic centric because nothing about the playing of AFL footy is fair to any non Vic teams.

So they may have broken the AFL rule. Who cares. What is of concern is whether, by being in isolation, that in SA the 10 person contact is likewise banned.

So currently AFL laws conflict with SA laws. Teams here can safely train outside in groups of 10. As can WA I believe. The issue is whether that same allowance applies whilst in self iso.

More details about the Crows breach in the Barossa Valley. So it seems clear that they breached the AFL requirements. They did get clearance from SA Police to train in groups of two during self isolation. It seems the "confusion" came when in SA you can have up to 10 (but not in iso) so the four lots of 2 players met in two groups of 8 plus the coach. Who is Ben Hart. He should have known better.

Given they were given special dispensation to even train as two, in the Barossa Valley where there was a cluster anyway, they have a lot of explaining to do. But that dispensation is being reviewed as to what was allowed.

They don't conflict. They are stricter.
But they are currently in SA. SA laws prevail here. 😉 The Police won't be at all concerned if they consider there has been no error made. The AFL will do what they want to do but won't involve police action if they are satisfied.

Bit of an expansion on the subject but I just heard that if they are not allowed to spit on the cricket ball, it will have “serious ramifications”. You can’t make this stuff up.

Mmm, polishing and maintaining the cricket ball with spit (and sandpaper 😂) has a significant impact on how the ball moves in the air and on the pitch. Liken it somewhat to playing a ball game with a flat ball.

Raelene Castle wouldnt have allowed that exemption !

The anti-vaxers have won which is not a good look at all.

Some might think they are stubborn and selfish.
And now it is has been fixed

So the Police have cleared the Crows of breaking the self iso rules. Now let's see what the VicAFL have to say.

AFL can not make laws so the dominant law is that of SA.
The AFL may make rules which they can insist are mandatory on those in the AFL industry.Wonder what would happen if the 4 SA and WA teams started an action on restriction of trade. They won't I don't doubt but if a couple of other teams decided to apply to go to SA or WA it may get interesting.

Listening to the media reports tonight about it, something smells a bit rotten. The Police Commissioner just said they weren't supposed to leave their rooms but then other police had apparently given approval to train in groups of two.
Agree about the AFL. Who cares. They aren't going to do anything much.

If they were granted an exemption as essential workers here in Tasmania that means you are allowed to "work"but confined to barracks the rest of the time.If so they were OK.
Tasmanian TV news had a bit more about this incident tonight. They were meant to train in pairs but during runs the pairs caught up.They were reported by nearby golfers who saw 8 together. Now that is clearly OK by SA laws.
