Angry about proposed travel ban exemption for footballers

Why, why why? My hubby is from Queensland! His mother passed away just before Christmas, he’s her executor and his 89 yo dad lives on the Gold Coast, but he’s not exempt from the travel ban for non-Qld residents. Arghhhhhh

Should have requested an exemption, I know people who have had exemptions approved to enter QLD for less reasons.

Obviously NSW and QLD will see the majority of the benefits from the NRL but the Melbourne Storm do create a bit for the Victorian economy also. I’ve stayed at the Pullman many times when the opposition have been staying there and they book out a stack of rooms and if you head down to Southbank on game day the bars and restaurants are packed full of supporters having a meal or drink with many establishments offering specials and showing the game live.

Shows what poor taste Storm supporters have eating in Southbank ;) :)
Tourist trap central!

Some good restaurants down there and a couple of our Melbourne favourites. I don’t mind the place but on days of NRL and football it’s packed.

Vic Government continue hard line and deny Melbourne Storm request to train in Melbourne and fly interstate for matches. Plan B: Albury base, if NSW Government agree

Trust us, we will obey the rules, we are socially responsible, we would never lie through our teeth, honest it was an accident, you just misunderstand -

We must continue to be paid, we are loyal to our club and respect our team mates, we deserve the obscene amount of money you pay us while misbehaving, and meanwhile our clubs are at the same time running around cap in hand trying to survive.

An "industry" diverting millions of dollars that produces no material outcome worthwhile to society. YMMV. Not much different to pokies in my book.
You mean investment advisers, accountants, and the rest of the financial services industry?

Gee .. some doozy linkages appear on AFF . this one is right up with the best….. 😁

Awkward. Hoping for a good recovery but the coach of a Sydney NRL club has tested positive and in isolation.

OK OK. Media was wrong. Just tested today and result tomorrow?

I was under the impression he was only tested today and is staying at home. Trent Robinson from the Roosters
Not sure. Just heard he was positive from the media.

Yes, just googled. You and Oatek right. Tested today. Obviously the players name means nothing to me.

No, has just been tested as a precautionary action.

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson was tested for coronavirus Monday morning as all 16 NRL clubs prepare to go back to training on Wednesday.

Robinson woke up in the morning with a sore throat and made the decision to not go to Moore Park with players
who are attending educational sessions on coronavirus protocols.

Yes, already mentioned and an additional post made to clarify.

You need to ask who is in charge of this country ? Entitlement mentality from sportsman here are quite a deal breaker and need reforms intended to make the nation more just and humane.
Look at these entitlements for believing in super entity and not paying taxes which is a major scam and sportsmen and corrupt governing basically flip side of the coin.

And this is why I want people to download the app. We need to get the economy on the road to recovery now it can be safe and controlled to do so. Manage outbreaks if they occur, isolate, test.

However it is a shame that it is NRL that gets the first exemption. I'd much prefer it if it was say, tennis or something like that but obviously wrong season. And NRL will only rock NSW and Qld's boats. Nothing to see south of the NSW border.

However with NRL I guess they won't have to worry about crowd control - attendance at matches isn't their strong point.
Why then is Victoria always after the State of Origin, and paying a fortune for it? Why was the first game this year to be played in Adelaide?

To respond to your first sentence, NRL got the first exemption because they were the first to apply, because the sport employs a hell of a lot of people, and because it's late autumn, when football is played.

The OP of this thread was up in arms about someone not being permitted to come to Australia, presumably from the UK, while an NZ-based football team in the Australian competition was finally approved by both governments; has this person looked at the respective figures? Australia and New Zealand have extraordinarily tiny numbers compared with the UK, and as such are likely to permit AU-NZ long before anywhere else. QED there.

Really almost enjoy Rugby Union 🤭😂. Rugby League well, not an Aussie game but something that a couple of eastern states dreamt up during some kind of meltdown! <waiting for the furore to erupt> 😂
League was dreamt up in the north of England actually. And ironically it was as of a result of a pay dispute. Players wanted to be paid for participating in rugby tours.

Wasn't hard to find lots of allegations of AFL players and sexual assaults using google. The first 4 have been in the news recently.

And there certainly are Rugby League players that do good deeds and charity work and most are good citizens.
One in particular that I followed was Billy Moore. He played for the North Sydney Bears which was the team I followed. In those years several Bears played for QLD so I have always followed QLD in the State of Origin.

When I moved to the Sunshine Coast Billy owned a restaurant at Mooloolaba. Our son took after his dad following the Bears. So on a visit home we went to the restaurant and our son asked Billy If he could get his jersey signed by Mario Fenech-his favourite player. Now Mario lived in Sydney but Billy took the jersey and a month or so later brought it back signed by Mario and a few other of the Bear's team of that era.

He has been involved in Junior football on the Coast and works with many troubled young fellows.A true gentleman with a great sense of humour.
Quite so. Billy Moore is famous for being the first to use and popularise the cry "Queenslander!" during a State of Origin game. I well remember seeing him play for Queensland at Lang Park.

I'd hope the funeral home would be "creative" and sort out some way to ameliorate this very sad scenario but which is being played out across Australia.

Meh.. some places aren't even seeking exemptions and breaking the rules for funerals, yet no one seems to be kicking up a fuss

Unfortunately, perhaps COVID has stolen Qantas' motto: Consistently Inconsistent.

It doesn't matter where they come from, the UK, India or NZ, they all do quarantine supposedly. So, the argument is not relevant, incl your "QED".
