Status match complete :)

Just spoken to BNE Lounge Goddess, Annette, who has been thrilled with the walk-ins today getting status matched on the spot. Now I understand why she wanted me to come back this afternoon for a coffee :D

I understand a number of the 18 members from yesterdays meeting have new statuses, as Annette got their details yesterday. I wonder how many DJ Plats there are today from AFF?

Many many plats, happiness. :oops:

Let us know how you get on in The Lounge!

I was greeted at the entrance by the lounge angel [I had to remind myself not to write dragon], who seemed a bit confused with my QF card and what I was doing there. But she led me over the service desk where I met Keith009, who upon seeing my card, said he'd been expecting me! He quickly took the details from my card, prepared my temporary card, handed me an info sheet, and then gave me a quick tour of the lounge.

BTW keith009 said I was the 33rd status match he'd processed today.

My guest and I are now enjoying the lounge experience; I expect I'll be back here a fair bit it future.

Now I just need to start getting my head around the Virgin way of doing things...

Here's one Virgin way of doing things that I just calculated ... Melbourne to Sydney Return on a random date in October:

Qantas J: $628, earns 1250 QFF points as a Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze

Virgin J(PE): $425, earns 4250 VFF points as a Platinum, 3719 as Gold, 3188 as Silver

So even "just" a Silver FF with Velocity gets at least two and a half times the points of a Platinum FF with Qantas! Assuming the price goes up a bit once it is a full J service, they get even more!

Just noticed that I've hit 1000 posts today on AFF ... and Monday I'll hit 1000 SCs with VFF. Does that make me a Platinum AFFer? :p

Or to put it another way (assuming your numbers are correct) as a plat on VA I will earn more points than a QF plat on SYD-MEL in J providing I spend more than $125 on the fare. Obviously not all points are created equal but that gives an interesting comparison.

Got a call tonight from a Velocity Platinum rep. Apparently there is now a Platinum Centre.

Since I have over 2000 SCs she was calling to let me know I can gift a Platinum membership to a "companion". Was tempted to gift it to my four year old son, but my wife would never forgive me.

So now wife is also Platinum. Not sure what to do with the little fella...;)

I think my numbers are correct...

Red member = 5 points per $1
Silver = 50% bonus, therefore 7.5 points per $1
Gold = 75% bonus, therefore 8.75 points per $1
Platinum = 100% bonus, therefore 10 points per $1

Agree also that points are worth different amounts, but I seriously don't think that QFF points are worth 3 times VFF points. If used for J class travel, points to me are worth anywhere from 3-6 cents each. Worst case scenario lets say that's 3 cents. At 10 points earned per $1 on DJ domestic, if I use those points towards a J seat, I'm getting back 30 cents worth of points for every $1 I spend on flights. Doubt I'll ever get that on QF.

Each program will have its own little areas of happiness when it comes to earn and burn, the beauty of being an elite tier member for more than one program is you can take advantage of such benefits, last week I happily Sky-bedded it as a JASA ex DRW to TSV then completed the rest of my trip on a PE Taster. I think the difference between the two programs overall has narrowed considerably this week!

Not sure if this question has been answered earlier, but does anyone know what the VFF equivalent is for non-partner *Alliance levels? Eg TG ROP Silver / Gold?

Not telling you you need to change, just that getting it wrong by a factor of about ten is a little bit wrong. It may not help the several others in this thread who are using your numbers to make their own comparisons.

Actually, i can't find 800,000+ redemptions anywhere. Where did you find them?
You can find them every day as Cove also did.The only one quoted when the reward fare isnt available-

So I could say underestimating by a factor of 10 can be misleading.As I said all i did was go 6 months forward.Was thinking february was often a slow month for travel and may be some availability.This 834800 has been displayed on every date that i look at so dont know why you cant see it.

Preferential award availability perhaps?

I've finally finished reading the 50 pages of info and now have a couple of questions.
When does the Status Match finish and does your 12 months start from the day that you applied for the Status Match? Really keen to use it's benefits in Oct 2012 with the family. :)

Hmmm. Weird. This is the same date for me...

Not sure what size the image came out as but it reads as:

443900
+ $108

Not great but very different!

It finishes when it runs out - sooner rather than later seems to be the indication - it could be tomorrow, probably will be before October. Status runs out 12 months from status match.

Its 12 months from the day the account is updated with the new status, that may not be the same day at the lounge, and I am not sure waiting until Oct is wise, previous offers have closed pretty quickly.
