Annual Fee issues - Diamond Cards.

Got a similar letter on a CBA card (not diamond) that I rarely use, so went into the branch today and cancelled it. The "retention strategy" that they endeavoured to deploy was so pathetic it was almost funny, except they kept me waiting so long that I wasn't in a laughing mood.

Now trying to decide between WWEDR, HSBC, Macquarie, Amex or one of the myriad of other cards with better reward programs than CBA.

Could you not just get a diamond?

Pretty happy with DIA card.....really happy it's fee free!

Is the Diamond going to be $395?
As I said Plat was Fee Free until this letter...going to diamond will put the Annual fee up?
Read a post on Whirlpool saying they are getting letters for Diamond for $59 a year WTF?

How long does it take True awards credited after paying off the card....48hrs?
Or is it the end of the month?
can you ask them to credit after bill paid?

Edit: I rang True awards and got the info to my questions.
1. No it is credited at the next credit card statement.
2. I was informed that even with the card cancelled, you can still claim\transfer points up to 3 months later.
3. To transfer points you CALL the True awards for them to do it over the phone as no Netbank True Award online access.

tried negotiating my diamond fee, but to no avail. Even threatned to leave & they didnt care! Does it matter that it gets paid off every month & they've not had a cent of CC interest from me?

Card has been buried here too and onto Woolies...but here is a tip all credit cards with Paywave can be turned into FREE NFC tags...use Anytag NFC app ;)

There seems to be a way of getting this with no annual fee. I started with a student card and got free upgrades every year until I got the Diamond. When it was time to pay the annual fee I downgraded to the Awards card (useless) and got 10,000 QFF points as a sweetener. I just called to cancel this card with the reason that the points earn is no good and the operator offered me 'any' card fee free because "the annual fee on the Awards card was waived anyway" and I still had around 8 months left. I asked if that included the Diamond card and she said yes. BUT my limit was too low to convert to Diamond (only $10,000 - even though I previously had the Diamond card with this limit!). So I ended up cancelling and walking away!
I did something similar to this over the course of ~5 years, never paid an annual fee but after 15 months on the Diamond I was suddenly hit with the $250 charge. No effort was made at retention (despite the number of CBA services I used at the time and considerable investments), a protracted process to pay off the credit balance followed and in short I'm no longer a CBA CC customer.

I've had Diamond Awards card for a number of years and never paid a fee. Originally it was a Gold Awards card - never paid any fees on that either. Way back in the dim dark past the Gold Awards card was a CPA Australia co-branded card, fee free. Maybe that's how I started on the fee-free track. If the CBA starts charging a fee the card gets cancelled on the spot. It's not that good a card - QFF points earn is poor. For me it's only a back-up card for a few hundred in transactions a month.

The MC is a dud however, the AMEX is (ATO) fantastic:cool:

One of the things I like about this card;

I've just refinanced with them and got the platinum card with my wealth package and when I asked about upgrading to the Diamond I was told to hang on for 2-3 months and I'll get an offer for it - no annual fee.

I'm waiting!!

I got a similar BS line about 10 months ago, still waiting. As a result I plan to move my private and business banking away from them; just waiting for a loan to come up for renewal. Im sick of being taken for granted by CBA.

Have had CBA Diamond AMEX and MC for the past year with the first annual fee waived - have just been advised as of 2 weeks ago diamond now covered under Wealth Package.

Cheers
