I am going

One of my older friends and his wife died during COVID AT AGE 98 so I’m making the effort to go cry and mourn and take a photo or two
The other place there’s likely a memorial is the Auckland museum war memorial

Was thinking Saturday or Sunday at this stage

On Saturday morning I'll be doing parkrun and a run followed by brunch somewhere (likely miss the included breakfast at hotel).

Fortunately my flights to and from bne are on the way back from akl, not on the way to akl.
 
Unfortunately we are definite cancellations after 35 minutes on hold to a different 1300 number than usual and requiring a code to have call answered I am sure I got the South African call centre by the accent.
Only J reward seats offered were to fly via MEL on Saturday arriving in AKL after midnight. Obviously pointless. I didn't go any further but may well have cost more points due to extra mileage. So everything cancelled and full refund of points and cash with no change fee.
 
Fortunately with the landfall being pushed south we will be on the northern side with at least some reduction in windspeed.
but they are now also predicting that it will be downgraded to a tropical storm on friday. Still can cause destruction but usually less severe.
 
Have made a Plan B for the Teen and Mr Q (the dog).

Will chat to Mr Katie at home tonight about whether we'll sit it out for another day or so or rebook for next weekend. But next weekend, there's no AFF dinner. :(
(It's a DSC booking, which is why I want to keep it)
