Another explore gold (Flybuys) offer

I'm assuming by being explore gold i'd be able to upgrade my LAX-MEL flight with Virgin to business using points. Since upgrade with points is only available to Gold VFF members, if it extends to explore gold then it would definitely be worth signing up for the CC.

Got my card today. Some chance I might have the opportunity to book a VA segment in the next few weeks so I can check out the lounge...

Yes, explore gold provides the same flight upgrade benefits as full gold.

You can only upgrade using points to Premium Econ if you have booked a freedom fare, or you can go from Premium Econ to Business using points as well. Did you book premium economy?

I was hoping to do the same on my upcoming LAX-MEL as well, but work usually books Getaway or Elevate fares, and in this instance it was Elevate, so I can't upgrade to premium economy using points which is a bit disappointing, as I have over 150k points and this is my first long haul flight. Though I guess it is a popular route, so they can't open up the flood gates too much.

With that said, I do have YX seats, so hopefully it isn't all bad. I'm about 6"4 and can't imagine I've have a good time in Y.

I have the getaway fare as I was content with flying in Y but like yourself I have an excess in points and this would have been an opportunity to use them.

EDIT: Misunderstood your post. So upgrades using points are only on the Freedom fare and if SG or WP?

Is it the new cards/tags and does it come with those tags?
From what I can see it is not the Hulsbosch design. Bag tag has metal fastener but the design is "flight path" going from bottom of the Y to above the C in Velocity as per below

For SG, that's correct. I'm not sure about WP sorry, but reading the below I think it applies to WP as well. It's a bit frustrating that points upgrade isn't offered to SG or WP from any fare type to Premium / Business.

Urgh, I haven't posted 10 times so I can't post the URL. But google "velocity upgrademe points" and go to the first URL

Short Haul Int, all velocity members can upgrade from Go Plus, Getaway or Freedom to business class.

Int long haul, Platinum and Gold "booked on certain fares" can upgrade.

Signing up to the Coles MasterCard also enables you to "try" Explore Gold. I have a flight MEL-AKL booked for July 17th. Will it be processed in time for that? Thanks.

Hi, just wondering where you find this offer? Cant see anything online about it.

Thanks to this thread I searched through my emails and found the offer. Applied for the credit card and was accepted earlier this week. They said I would hear more in 5-7 days.
My Flybuys account was already linked my Velocity account. Is there anything else I need to do and is the fact I was already linked an issue?

I activated the targeted Explore Gold offer in May, made required Status Credits about 3 weeks ago however the Coles Mastercard offer has come along and reset all of that :\

I applied for the card on 19 June (the day the email offer came out). Received the card on 26 June and the 20,000 flybuys points posted 3 July. Still have not received Explore Gold (7 days since flybuys points posted).

Update: Explore Gold came through today - just after 3 weeks from flybuys points posting (offer said within 4 weeks).

As to whether it is targeted, I received the email offer but my wife applied for the card from the link and our flybuys household account is linked to her Velocity account.

The offer is no longer in my flybuys offers and the link from the email no longer works.

SBv72, Just to be clear. You received the offer however your wife applied and was successful for explore gold? I haven't received the offer directly but I know someone in my household who has. Except I'm after the offer as I will be the one who is doing the travelling.

Yes, I received the credit card offer but my wife applied and was successful. The T&C state Explore Gold will be granted to the Velocity account linked to the flybuys account receiving the points (which you include in the card application). You might be able to get gold by either applying using household member's offer, they use your flybuys number in the application, or if you are all under the same flybuys household - link your velocity account to that flybuys household. Standard disclaimer - YMMV.

I appreciate the speedy response. I have the link to the offer and currently all our household's points are getting pooled into my account. If it worked for you fingers crossed it works for me also! Thanks!!!

Glad you received yours in the end. Did you get any email or other indication along the way that it was coming? I hit the three week mark from FB points being received this week and have flights the following week so hoping it comes through by then.

Did you receive the card or just see your account change to Explore Gold?
