Another Jetstar whinge

So Jetstar lets them check in a bag without payment, asks them to pay multiple times but lets them board anyway even though no payment was received, calls the father who is presumably the booking contact but for some unexplained reason does not accept his payment. There has to be more to this story.

"He says his mother-in-law had been informed that she needed to visit the service desk at the airport pay a $35 fee to check in a bag, but forgot to do so before boarding the flight."

"She was also reminded multiple times that she needed to pay for the baggage, including by Jetstar staff while boarding the flights, NCA Newswire understands"

I smell pieces of the story missing.

Surely case closed unless she didn't have any capability to pay or cognitive impairment.

Also love the use of the word grandmother. Invokes a baby boomer who struggles with the modern world. Which she may, but less likely for a 48 yo Gen X'er than for someone who's in an older generation.

And if the fellow paying the fares had paid for the bags when booking this probably wouldn’t have happened.
We have no information about the mother in law but possibly she might not speak much English so didn’t understand the request for payment.
Though more likely the enraged fellow knows that he should have paid for the bag but saving face by taking it out on Jetstar.

As one of those, this peeves me no end. She's also only 48. Maybe thats another part of the story.

I'm always staggered as to why people continue to fly Jetstar.
Why? You play be the rules they set, and know what to expect and they fulfil a need. I mean with regards to this story, it's not exactly new that people are forced to pay for luggage that doesn't fit within the parameters they set. That's been going on for almost 20 years now.

I presume they were given boarding passes despite having not paid for luggage and then just walked away from the bag drop.

Why do so many of these stories involve travel to or from OOL?

Seriously this woman is much closer to my son's age than mine !
My query why did he have to "transfer" the funds ? Why not a credit card for payment ? If no credit card Scenario could have been transfer mum the monies and let her pay there and then
I wonder why people become so aggravated when they are using a LCC and are upset when the LCC enforces their extra payment rules ?

A Grandma of 48 with three grandkids in tow (and it seems one by implication was 9yo) 🤔

And JQ left them in the airport "without food and water". 🙄 Can he have drummed up any more drama to add to the story

$45 is the price for 15Kg at the airport for a domestic flight. Going up to $55 next month.
But buy 15Kg when you book OOL -MEL is $26, 20Kg $28.
So don't blame MIL.

Why?

They carry around 30million pax a year and reasonable prices and for the most part things go smoothly. If you want to get a service you haven't paid for then fly someone else. I'm sure if they were lfying Virgin and wanted to check a bag on afare without a bag there would be issues, likewise if they flew the beloved QF and had a bag but wanted a second bag they would pay.

You can't just buy a ticket and expect services you are not entitled to on any airline.
