Murphy's Law of Sales

You will be short of money when a sale is on. :(

Hmm, tempting, but I wonder where the cheapest DONE3/4's originate these days?

ex-Sweden seems pretty cheap due to favourable exchange rate against the SEK. Although there are no AA flights from ARN, so taxes might be higher than "usual" (but probably still cheaper than QF issue).

Of course, positioning in and out of ARN is a different problem altogether...

date change of the first segment doesnt work...qantas/ta wont reissue at the lower price and only at the original price...working with ta now but suspect I am cornered

Qantas and TA would only reissue at the sale price if the sale price was a permanent reduction !!!

with respect to straitman and others I have checked the FT forum and have put those thoughts to Qantas and TA but those suggestions are currently being rejected forcing me to consider cancellation and booking a new ticket.
Yes, you can cancel and reapply the credit less 5.5%.

[Assuming there is still availability in the booking classes and you can wait up to 6 weeks for the refund,] I would simply tell your agent to cancel outright. Then book a new one with AA or using the online booking tool.

here are the rules: http://www.oneworld.com/content/library/oneworld_explorer_rule_sheet.pdf

(Note these don't indicate the 5.5% for Oz as that has been removed with this latest version - since you booked under those old rules the 5.5% still applies)

See section 16:
16. VOLUNTARY CHANGES/REROUTING/PENALTIES
...
(b) Cancellations and Refunds
(1) After ticket issuance - Cancellation/No Show
Forfeit 10% of ticketed fare for Economy Class fares
Forfeit 5% of ticketed fare for Business/First Class fares

Anyone know a TA in New Zealand willing/able to ticket to AA?
Seems like time to think about next year's trip and maybe canceling the AKL-PER award tickets........

Thanks

Fred

(b) Changes other than to Date/time/oneworld carrier/inventory permitted at a charge of
USD125.00 per transaction. If the fare level has increased since ticket issuance, the difference
between the old and new fare will also be charged. If the fare level has decreased since ticket
issuance, no refund will apply.

OK, so if I change my routing after Nov3 I'm going to be hit with USD$150 + 10% Base Fare....

Is there any way around this? (i.e. change routing after first flight has been completed)

I've not noticed that there before.

But it only applies before departure. After departure the fare rule is as thus:

Code:
CHANGES AFTER DEPARTURE
          DATE/TIME/ONEWORLD CARRIER/INVENTORY CHANGES ARE
PERMITTED PROVIDED TICKETED POINTS REMAIN THE SAME
          -
CHANGES OTHER THAN TO DATE/TIME/ONEWORLD CARRIER/
INVENTORY CARRIER PERMITTED AT A CHARGE OF
          USD125.00 PER TRANSACTION.
edit: I noticed they've now also clearly spelt out the 'first flight change' rule:
Code:
IF THE FIRST FLIGHT IS BEING ‡
CHANGED AND THE FARE LEVEL HAS INCREASED SINCE THE
TICKET ISSUANCE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD AND
NEW FARE BE CHARGED. IF THE FARE LEVEL HAS
DECREASED SINCE TICKET ISSUANCE NO REFUND WILL
          APPLY.
The 2nd bit seems an apparent reinvention of IATA ticketing procedures. I'd have thought when the first flight is touched it'd trigger a recalculation of fare and the new fare will apply regardless of whether it's higher or lower than the original fare (not that OW fares ever get lower except due to currency volatility :p).

I'm mightily tempted to book one ex-SA for July next year but who knows whether I'd have the time to finish it. Employment kills all the fun...

Just watch out for some expensive positioning flights (due to World Cup)

With respect to pyffii's problems and further to Serfty's post 23, AA have advised the following after I queried changing my DONE4, booked 10 days ago, to take advantage of the 10% discount:

"The 10% discount - is applicable as of today. If you'd like to change your first segment, please advise the new date so as to recalculate the fare. No penalty is applicable."

I'm in the process of changing the first flight so as to get this discount. I'll report back when it's all done.

Success. AA has just confirmed my refund of just over ZAR5000, a little more than 10% of the fare paid. All I did was change the date of the first flight by advancing it by one day (it's not an intercontinental flight). I also told AA that there was every chance I would change the date again, back to the original.

Hey Danger what great news for you...Maybe AA are more lenient than Qantas !!!...Has anyone had any success with a Qantas ticket using Danger's method ?

One important part of this.

danger's booking was made under the rules in place before August 25 which do not have this new clause:
IF THE FIRST FLIGHT IS BEING CHANGED AND THE FARE LEVEL HAS INCREASED SINCE THE TICKET ISSUANCE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW FARE BE CHARGED. IF THE FARE LEVEL HAS DECREASED SINCE TICKET ISSUANCE NO REFUND WILL APPLY.
Any booking made in the future, as long as this rule stays, will not be able to be adjusted as happened in danger's case.
