Another VA low point - denied meet lounge access

No. I will defend myself against people grossly distorting and misrepresenting what I wrote.

I'll make a deal with you Punky. When you find the exit out of the revolving door you're trapped in, give me a yell and we'll discuss what the thread is actually about!

This whole thing is really ugly.

Punky said:

"From what I have seen of the frequent flyer crowd is that they are not really always the most honest in trying to get something, and many would tell straight out lies claiming they were meeting someone, when they really just wanted a free beer....."

You then decided to interpret that as:

"
You actually stated that all the FFer "crowd" that you've seen are dishonest when attempting get something and most are outright liars to boot."

English is my fifth language, and even I know that they do not equate.
"From what I have seen" does not mean what you seemingly think it means. And "not really always" is the kind of wishy-washiness I criticize my daughter for on the rare occasion when she will listen. Hardly a stunning sting. (No offence intended, Punky)

Unwritten rules are worth the paper they are written on. And subject to staff discretion. It may have been your WDYTIA-ness (so evident in this thread) that caused them to exercise that discretion.

It may not have been, too. That whopper is as incorrect as the other statement you're desperately trying to defend. Your comment comes down to wild guessing and fact less statements, all of which make them hollow.

So...after a rather lengthy discussion would it be fair to say that VA didn't actually reach another Low? In summary, a VA staff member used their simple discretion to an unwritten rule. I guess that happens right? Can we move on?

I think this thread has run its course. If you have new information, please send a PM to a moderator/report this post and we'll consider reopening it.

Thread reopened to enable a request to post specific content..

It will remain open unless some starts to rehash as before.

I requested this thread to be reopened, to neither extend nor intensify the debate, but to post an experience from this morning. For the record, I agreed that samh004 made a very good judgement call that the debate had reached a stalemate, so I will post my comment and accept return comment without reply.

I was in the VA BNE lounge this morning, so I asked them two questions:
1. As a plat, can I guest in a non-status person, even if I'm not flying but they are; and
2. As a plat, can I wait in the lounge for my wife's VA flight to arrive, even though I'm not flying.

The answer was: "yes of course sir. It's VAs policy to extend those benefits to both gold and platinum members".

The reason I post this, is that there are a number of FFers who have used these benefits and although it can change at a moments notice, at least in BNE it's still "business as usual".

I withdraw for the duration.

Ouch! I should have sung out. I was in the Qantas food court this morning and for a solid 2 hours too  Had to grab a QF up to Bundy as VA only fly midday and I needed to be early. It was the first time in about 4 years I've been caught with no access. Settled on Hungry Jacks, visited almost all the stores, wandered around aimlessly for a bit. Yeah. And to add insult to injury, my PS with QF just dropped away a week ago - couldn't even use priority at the bag drop!

I have taken a note of your points and will pose these 2 questions to the staff in the OOL lounge tomorrow.

Should be an interesting comparison

Further question: could I have a copy of this "policy" so I can show the next lounge receptionist that may deny entry.

What may be needed is a simple page reference to the policy in their "manual" - while the actual printed content is likely CiC?

Title, page, section ...

Just arrived at the OOL Lounge and asked the nice, smiling lady at the desk about swanning it 's situation.

Not a problem she replied, as long as the lounge is not full and she is on a VA flight you are more than welcome to come in and wait for your wife.

If you are not travelling you may also bring in your guest and once they are comfortable you can leave if you wish and we will look after them.

It would seem that each situation is dependent on how the VA staff feel on the day.

What if you are travelling but on another airline ?
I suppose you could just say that you weren't and bring in a random guest from VA check-in  :p

Just what I thought. No use if it's a verbal word of one staff member and there's nothing to provide to another staff member at a different port. I prefer my benefits to be clearly defined, even if unpublished publically, there should be a note of it somewhere that I can tell them to look towards ;)

Exactly, plenty of potential for abuse! :p
