I really do like the Tassie coastline and the rocks.

The lighthouse is on the other side of this point but the black cloud was getting closer so I decided to head back.DSC05977.JPG.
Back to the car.
DSC05978.JPG.
The cloud was now heading out to sea.

I went back to Lonnie via St.Mary's and Fingal. The sunset looked spectacular but the camera just didn't catch it.

DSC05980.JPG.

This is the best road to use to get to the East coast.Use St.Mary's pass rather than Elephant pass though.
The other reasonable road is from the south side of Campbelltown via Lake Leake.

Another weekend.Nothing exciting going on during the week.Work, occasional supermarket trip and cooking. However the weekend was freezing getting down to -4C.So I slept in-had been watching Le Tour until the end of the stages as well.Got down to the Harvest Market after 1000.Apparently I missed the Hawthorn team who were playing that afternoon.only a mascot left.

You can get most anything there.

I just got a Brekkie roll.Cheese, egg, bacon and tomato relish.Tasted good.
DSC05983.JPG.

Decided to go and see the monkeys. They should like the cold. They were just sitting around chilling.

After that I headed to the Orchid reserve near Latrobe as there can be the occasional winter flowering greenhood orchids.

however about 10minutes west of Westbury on the Bass Highway the traffic came to a standstill. There were flashing lights so i presumed it was an accident so a Uturn and back to westbury.I looked at my watch as I stopped and the time was 1126.on the news that night it said the accident occurred at 1115.Unfortunately 2 died and their 3 teenage children were injured 1 seriously. The highway was still closed 4 hours later when I returned.
By the time I got back to Westbury the police were already directing traffic to the old Bass Highway and it was bumper to bumper. We had to make 2 right turns to get onto the old highway and unfortunately many in front of me were waiting for an invitation to make those turns.

This meant I was passing Ashgrove cheese about 1230 so decided to check it out and have lunch.I was going to continue to Latrobe and lunch at Bellys for old times sake.So to Ashgroves.

The restaurant.Lots of seats out on the deck as well.
DSC05989.JPG.

It got busier so the tables were shared.I had an Irish family sitting at the table.parents and 3 small kids.Broad acents and all wearing something green. So I had a truffled cheese, ham and tomato relish toastie.
20210710_123417.JPG.

And a West Coast Wilderness IPA.But brewed in Ulverstone which i wouldn't call the wilderness.

20210710_122651.JPG.

Now my toastie wasn't large and cost $18.The Irish fellow had a cheese fondue. These were $30 and quite small. So not a place to take the whole family for lunch.

To the shop.

Much bigger and brighter than the old place bbut I preferred the old set up.No cheese tasting that day.Instead of quite a few local products they now have a range of chutneys etc plus jams made by Hill Farm preserves at Sister's Beach but with an Ashgrove label.

The view from the Ashgrove deck is nice.rolling green fields.

Just west of Ashgrove I turned left into the road to Kimberley and Railton.Again the scenery is great.

Sunday and time once again to change abode. This winter the number of tourists is incredible so there was no where I could stay for the whole 3 months.Another sleep in day.I had packed on both Friday and Saturday nights.I woke just before 0800.looked at my phone and BOM was saying it was -4C with a real feel of -7.Decided to stay in bed an extra hour.Had to check out at 1000.I left at 1001.But i still had to clear the ice of the windscreen.

Now what to do before checking in to my new digs at 1300.no time for a long trip so i decided to visit Launceston's historical cemeteries.First on the list was from trip Advisor. The Cypress street 1823 - 1926 cemetery.Problem it actually doesn't exist any more and is an industrial estate now.

So to number 2 on the list -the Rose Lane convicts cemetery. It does exist and kept by a couple of dedicated locals.Doesn't look much as you walk in.

Markers just below the path.

They mark the rows of graves. The rows run down the hill.
I'm not sure what this construction is here for.maybe unfinished.
DSC06013.JPG.

Just past this are tiles in the ground a little like Campbelltowns row of bricks.

DSC06017-001.JPG.

Done by different people some of whom put their name to their walk. Some not easy to read.but once again brings back the feeling of Man's inhumanity towards others.

Next was the cities largest cemetery Carr Villa.A large reserve of 50 hectares and one of the recommended walks around Launceston. It was officially opened in 1905 but I saw quite a few headstones from the 1800s.I went to the main entrance.Only pedestrian access but once inside there were a few cars driving around -there are 3 other entrances.Where you enter is the oldest part of the cemetery.

I wondered what relict meant. So I looked it up.Basically a remnant.I often go to just outside Wynyard to observe a species of greenhood orchids. The only known colony sp it is a relict. But also used for a widow or widower in past times.I hope I don't become a relict.DSC06048.JPG.

I wondered what relict meant.So I looked it up.Basically a remnant.
A very common archaic term pre, say 1900 referring to a widow, especially in Scotland or with Scots diaspora. Used in wills and newspaper funeral notices as well as gravestones.

Still a little time to kill but not everyone opens on Sunday. Was able to get a seat back at Malayalicious.Simple food,OK quality, cheap and on the Amex shop small list. This time started with chicken satays followed by a chicken laksa. The laksa was pretty good.
