Antarctica with Apprehension

We visited a number of the same places though being early in the season couldn’t cross the circle. The furthest south for us was Cuverville.
Being a bit later in the season helped and we really did have perfect conditions. They only made the decision to go to the circle after we got to Paradise Bay without any issues. It was all very exciting :)

I think there are pluses and minuses for all of early, mid and late season expeditions. They are all special though and each exciting. :)

I would think it’s a bit like going to Yosemite - we have been there in Spring and Summer and still want to do Autumn - all different and lovely, There would have been much more snow and ice around when you were there I imagine?

Yes, so much white as we were the first everywhere, no footprints even. But the downside is less southerly landings. South Georgia though is amazing. If you want to go back, my advice is to include it in the itinerary. Based on the crossing though, maybe you’re not planning a revisit. :p:p

ah - I think that would be no!

Have you tried the motion sickness glasses yet? I’m dying to know if they work?
no I haven’t. Still trying to get over Jetlag, but I promise I will and will report back on here when I do :).

Ps - I have to admit it is taking a bit of courage to get in a car and read and deliberately make myself sick :) :)

I think the idea is to put them on before you get sick. And not get sick. :)
That’s not the way they work :). As soon as you start feeling sick, you put them on for 10 minutes and they sync your brain with your inner ear and then you can take them off.

So what I need to do is read in the car, start feeling queasy, put them on and carry on reading and then when I stop feeling sick take them off and then I can read with no problems.

But what if they don’t work :) :). However in the interests of science I am going to try, maybe later today if I can talk Mr FM into taking me for a drive!

Thanks for offering to try them! If they work then there is hope for me in trying out various cruises as I get motion sickness in any movement.
So I nagged Mr FM into taking me for a drive. We went via as many roundabouts and curvy bits as we could. I read my book and started feeling queasy. Put the magic glasses on and carried on reading, stomach settled. After 10 minutes I took them off and carried on reading with no return of queasy feeling.

I am trying to talk Ms FM into trying them, but she just laughed at me.

It was just a small experiment, but certainly worked for me.

A bit more on food. Basically it was terrific - not talking Michelin stars here, but I enjoyed every meal. The meat was unbelievable, I asked and they said it was Argentinian Beef. I am not normally a big meat eater, but it was truly good.

Breakfast

Extensive Breakfast buffet in La Terraza, where we generally ate, as usually a bit of a rush to get to morning activities.

A la Carte breakfast in main restaurant

Fruit, pastries and tea and coffee in the Panorama lounge from really early

Room service breakfast

Lunch

Lunch buffet in La Terraza which changed a little each day

A la carte in main restaurant with different menu each day

Casual dining outside on the deck - wraps, burgers that sort of thing

Afternoon tea in La Terraza

Dinner

Fine Dining in La Dame
La Terraza became an Italian restaurant
A la Carte in main restaurant
hot rocks in the deck restaurant with divine meat, fish etc

24 hour room service

Absolutely no way you were going hungry and as I said we enjoyed all our meals.

Picture of the Hot Rocks dining - you needed to rug up for this, but it was fine. Only time we didn’t cope was lunch after we crossed the Antarctic circle. There was quite a strong wind blowing and so we took our food to the Panorama Lounge on the same level.09152A7F-123B-4525-AECB-84A030E19246.jpeg
