Anti semitism in Dubai

Serfty I didn't refer to prison or Aus. ... Whatever I think, travelling many places on the globe with the assumption that what happens here is going to apply overseas is naive or dangerous. ...
My response was in relation to your comment:
Reality check. Sex in the back of a taxi would probably attract sanctions in most countries.
While this is certainly true, it did not indicate the severity of any sanction that may be implied in different countries would likely vary greatly.

My indication that the level of such such that might apply in Oz would be rather different to a level that had indeed applied in Dubai was to demonstrate this.
...

Laws and customs vary. It is up to the traveler to make decisions based on value or risk about where they travel. ...
That is certainly true, and "sex in a taxi" in the circumstance of that even would be silly action in most if not places.

I am really sorry but this world is screwed up so badly. Western civilisation will not be around in 50 years time.

Throw me a bone, please.

Yeah and moonbots^ with death rays may strike next week too.

The world is full of different people with different ideas and ways of life, not all of them are ramming it down our throats and invading us to destroy our way of life.

Back on topic.

In my humble experiences I have found Arabic people to be humble, friendly and incredibly generous. Especially in their own country and when approached with common courtesy and respect for their culture.

I would love to visit Mecca one day, it would be an amazing and interesting place. And that is from me a dedicated atheist.

^Moonbots are forced to fly whY in their interstellar star destroyers and are very angry at having LCC standard meals and ex CX Y bucket slope seats. Thus making them one of the most formidable conquerors man has ever known.

I would also like to visit the Arab world. Although I have to admit squatting over a hole to have a **** doesn't inspire me!!

I was very disappointed with the one in Birmingham, even though it has the art deco exterior of the old Odeon.

Non-sequitors perhaps? Having actually been to an Arab country (Saudi doesn't get much more hard line Muslim and be accessible to westerners) I can say I have never had to squat over a hole to have a ****. In fact my biggest issue with Saudi was the prevalence of smoking in common areas in hotels. The driving is better than China and India. The air con is unspeakably cold. Beef bacon isn't and neither is chicken bacon.

Frankly again many people display their prejudice more than their ignorance in this thread - which I think is quite an achievement given the level ignorance being shown.

Good grief. I've seen those in the Singapore Airport Ladies bathroom (and everywhere throughout Asia.). Something like that would never even enter my mind.

If I was in that position I think i'd avoid transiting through a country where if the plane goes tech things will get very messy for you.

Also, you'd probably want to avoid country that is actively boycotting the one that you call your home.

The flightpath for SIN-LHR already passes over or near several countries that refuse entry for Israeli passport holders. What are Qantas, or anyone else for that matter, meant to do it they need to land a plane NOW at Karachi, for example? Whilst not wanting to endorse the situation, unless Alan Joyce can achieve world peace, there's always a risk of such issues arising.

Also, while personal boycotts are an option for Israelis, I suggest that the potential pool of airlines that don't fly to countries that don't recognise Israeli passports is going to be rather small.

Agreed, based on my experience. But we have more liberal views on this sort of caper and most taxis drivers are happy as long as the meter is running.

Given the prices Australian taxis charge, I'm not surprised. Who's really getting *****ed?

Just. Wow. I thought another poster is pretty rude but you just won that title hands down.

Have a look at the media coverage of residents objecting to a proposed mosque in Gungahlin, Canberra. [sorry, this should have quoted the person talking about freedom of religion in Australia]

Johnk reminds me of my experience hosting a delegation from Iraq. I was extremely surprised when one of them ordered pork and a beer for dinner. Guess what? He was a Christian. As it turns out there are a whole range of religious beliefs practised in the Middle East including Christianity. Might be worthwhile to inform ourselves if the facts before making judgements about what is possible from ignorance of the reality.

And yet many taxi drivers struggle to earn a decent hourly pay rate.

Because they are subcontractors of subcontractors of subcontractors, paying a percentage to CabCharge..

*shakes head in disbelief at where this thread is headed*

Certainly a long way from where it started. My original comment was that, despite any personal views that I might hold, people should be allowed to express an opinion without a "xx_ - not another one" comment.

We are all entitled to out views no matter how weird or strange some may feel them to be.

What about "how wrong it is" ? Not strange, not weird, just plain wrong.

The OP stated that they were disturbed that "Dubai still bans Jews from entering their country." which is outright wrong. Even the thread title is questionable.

I'm happy to see an incorrect statement corrected, but not the response that was elicited in this case. Some of us here hold a lot of incorrect views.

And we become better people for the experience, when said views are corrected.

Perhaps I have displayed ignorance here (certainly not prejudice because I am not judging those who use those toilets) but I thought that was what they used in the Muslim world. The closest I have got to the Muslim world (Lekemba aside) was KL and they had them there along with Western toilets.

My apologies if I got it wrong.

Pretty much, although cab charge take their cut on top of the fare and the owner is most likely stumping up the radio/meter fees from their take.
