Any chances of VA providing services to HKG

I like it too.

Can HND (or any Japan destination) be served daily using one a/c rotation?

I guess that will be a factor (aircraft usage).

Flight time with an A330 SYD-HND should be under 10 hours, so 2 hours to turn around at each end?

I beg to differ, the 777s were a diffferent story where holiday traffic was the problem. An A330 will suit business traffic much better and the right city pair can make all the difference, something not from Sydney.

I agree but do you think VA is a 'business' airline internationally into Japan on one aircraft? Suppose you have to crawl before you can walk. What would the one city be, perhaps Brisbane.

Its a good question .... it would be tight doing a daily rotation ex SYD or MEL.

As an example... QF's timetabled SYD-NRT is 10 hours & NRT-SYD is 9.35 hours . This would allow VA a combined TAT of around 4.5 hours or 2.15 at each end in a 24 hour period if VA did ex SYD if it were to offer a daily service. It doesn't leave much margin for error.

If VA chose ex BNE, then you are probably looking at approx 9 hours BNE-HND & 8.35 hours HND-BNE this would likely allow 6-6.5 hours combined TAT or 3 hours at each end . definitely doable

I just a quick look at QF21 & QF22 stats .

It appears that QF21 - SYD-NRT is averaging around 9 hours 10 mins , while QF22 - NRT-SYD is averaging around 8 hours 55 mins , so there might be a little more leeway for SYD flights , but not alot .

BNE might make more sense as it is the home base, and the potential of selling QLD as a leisure destination to the Japanese market.

No different to QF doing exactly that ex Sydney, albeit with inferior hard product compared to VA. JAL is similar as well.

Given that they serve three cities in Australia, two in Japan, and have two flights most days, JQ must therefore be the premier business airline between Australia and Japan? :p

Just back from my 6th trip to HK via VS in the last 5 months, It is a fabulous source of points and credits for me, am gutted it is finishing next month. I have to go again end May, looks like it will have to be QF as I don't want to go via Singapore just for points ggggrrrrr

What a shame :(
