Any no cost/very low cost way of keeping AA points?

Usually with e-rewards if you join via an airline program you can only redeem for that airline program plus a number of hotel programs and if you join via a hotel program you can only redeem for that hotel program and a number of airline programs.
For most programs you have to wait until you receive an invitational email but Accor Le Club has the invitation on their website. So you can join e-rewards via Accor Le club but redeem instead for AAdvantage (or Etihad, United, Virgin Atlantic, Iberia, germanwings or KLM/Air France)
https://secure.accorhotels.com/gb/leclub/benefits/partners/erewards.shtml
2,000 e-rewards points redeems for 500 AAdvantage miles.

Thanks for this.

I was trying to find out today who sent me the invitation - seems it must be Accor... checking the link shows the same partners - which includes David Jones and iTunes - as well as the various airlines and hotels.

Yeah I think the AA promotion expired a while ago, I have scoured the net but can't find a working link. I Also tried editing the Velocity link but it didn't work.
You used to be able to find a signup lik on the AA site but it has now gone.

Quick search, you can get 20 times bonus for a $25 donation.

Longer search, worth googling US Grand Slam, there were some pretty innovative ways to get a U.S. grand Slam "hit" for less than $10, of course that was US vs AA but many of the methods also apply.

i need to do this myself on one account so will let you all know!

So, I have bought via the AA store a $1.19 iTunes song. This should give me 3 points, and keep my sisters AA account (30k miles) alive, will let up I know how it goes.

Hi kempvet - could you please expand on the use of family and second AA accounts. We flew a few weeks ago using AA points, and only have accounts in my own and my wife's name. When I went to pay the fees on her booking using my CC, it rejected and I had to use her CC for her booking. I then assumed that having additional accounts would run into similar problems. Any thoughts?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

This doesn't fit with my experience, got reward flights using my daughters accounts, paid with my CC. No problems.

Thanks for that, must try harder next time. As it was our first booking, and the call centre had not been much help as they couldn't see the bookings I was after, I went ahead and processed the booking myself. Enjoyed the experience.

With TAA? .....
I'd rather buy Peer Gynt's "Morning Mood" - that Ansett ad with the swan morphing into a jet still sticks in my mind and hearing that music always makes me want to "get outta here" on a plane (a Pavlovian reaction, perhaps?).

Does the e-shopping portal work for non-US residents, for this purpose? I notice they have some decent promos running, but requiring a US zip code to sign up...

Worked for me shopping through Sierra Trading Post.

The car hire through Avis also works I got 500 miles for a $70 hire car.

Yeah I assumed that the individual merchants would be fine, as long as they shipped to Australia.

I'm more worried about signing up for e-shopping in the first place due to the US residency/zip code requirement. Obviously you can just punch anything in to sign up, but I'm concerned that if I do that they might notice a mismatch between that and the details on the AA account itself, and potentially revoke any miles gained.

Dunno if I'm being too paranoid. :P

You should be fine. I just added a 0 in front of my actual post code. I really should read the T&C's to see if I'm breaking any rules.

EDIT:
Just had a quick look at the T&C's and there is nothing stipulating that you must be a resident of the US.
They are more concerned with fraud issues like repetitive returning of goods for refund after miles post.

I just rec'd an email offer from AA for $5 magazine subscriptions, "Put on your reading glasses & earn 2X miles at Magazines.com".

For a $5 one year subscription and a few points hopefully this will extend the miles a bit more. I put it on an Aussie cc, but using the recipients address instead of mine. Waiting to see if it will go through.

Offer goes for about a week. Anyone else get it? I logged into my AA account and would post the link, but it may default to my account ... ?

Edit, it has come up on my AU cc as an authorisation, so seems to have gone through OK.

I too need to keep accounts alive and investigated the AA e-shopping portal.

On the AA site (https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/earnMiles/retail-dining/main.jsp) it shows (my bolding):

Qualifying AAdvantage eShopping purchases will accrue AAdvantage miles per the terms and conditions set by each particular merchant. Mileage offer is available to U.S. residents only, not including Puerto Rico and the USVI. Members should read each mileage offer carefully as certain exclusions may apply. Miles are awarded as reported by the applicable merchant ("Merchant") to American Airlines or Cartera Commerce, and certain exclusions may apply. Online purchase awards only valid when you make a qualifying purchase via a valid link on www.aadvantageeshopping.com. Please read our full terms and conditions carefully before shopping.

It may work, but you are breaking rules.

Well, I don't see how it is breaking the rules. It is their decision whether they pay me the miles or not. I wanted to give a little gift to a US friend and I have mislaid the the scratchy I bought there a few days ago and was going to post.

If I do not qualify then they will not pay the miles. I used the US address to simplify the payment method. Do a search on the 'el segundo' method so that you see.

There is no rule that you can't do this, the only caveat is that AA may not pay out points. Why is it so many people want to misquote T&Cs, is it really true that Aussies want a rule for everything?
