Anybody with any experience getting wiped points reinstated?

I haven't flown QF in years and I don't credit points to QF. As it happens, I just went to book a QF points redemption and noticed that ~350,000 points were wiped 5 days ago while I was away on holiday.

This is all my fault. It is not QF's fault. I searched back through my emails and they did send me a warning about this, but the email looked like a promo (it was entitled "Your September Qantas points balance plus great offers") and I deleted it without reading the bit in the middle about expiring points.

As it has only just occurred, I thought there might be some chance that they might entertain an approach to reverse this. But rather than go in unprepared, I thought I might ask if anybody has had any success with such a request and, if so, what technique might have worked? ;)

Good luck. I'll be interested to hear of your experience.

But now I have a reason to check my points balance and expiry dates on a daily basis :)
 
I'm sure I've read occurrences on here where they have reversed the deletions, as a gesture of goodwill. However it would be in their discretion. Perhaps flag down Red Roo with a PM and see what you can work out :)

How does one flag down the mighty Red Roo?
 
Red bar near the top of AFF web page ... Private Messages; put Red Roo into recipient (make sure it selects the right name); subject and message.

Suggest you put your actual (as opposed to AFF) details in, with a request for clemency!

Sounds like you didn't shop at Woolworths or took one flight, I don't like your chances of getting the points back.

Correct. As I said in the OP, I haven't flown QF in years. I was thinking of heading back to QF though. I have a Tesla and we get Qantas lounge membership included so I thought I'd "dabble" again, which is why I was looking to use my points just now. ;-)
 
I tried with something tiny like 12,000 points last year. And I thought I'd have had a leg to stand on, because I tried both shopping through their store and also to use the toolbar to collect points in the 4 weeks before mine expired (and the shopping took too long to credit and the toolbar never once credited me anything in months). And I sent a pleading letter to RedRoo in response to something they had posted in a thread of mine, asking for my details.

And I never had a response, and certainly no points reinstated.

I'm not sure that with 350k points, you'd have a better or worse chance at getting a response... would love to hear what happens though, so please keep us updated!
 
Thought to check with a couple of friends and family to make sure their points didn't expire.

One friend replied, "can you buy wine and earn points.":)

I feel for the OP, in that I have read here many times that the "warning your points will expire" message is hidden in yet another "points balance / exciting offers" email. I feel that this way of "warning" is not really done in a decent or honest manner on QF's part.

On the other hand, it boggles belief that someone could have 350,000 points and not do anything for years that would allow them to expire.

"terms and conditions" are a necessary evil - that almost none of us read them is not really QF's fault, and I am sure that QF is more generous here than many programs.

Interesting once we had some points expiring with one of the US carriers and were in similar situation with shopping points to take time to come through. However they were happy to maintain or reinstate the points based on the date of the shopping transaction, not on the date of posting.

Likewise I would have assumed if you took a partner flight a couple of days before you expiry that took a week to post, you shouldn't lose the points.

Hope you get a positive outcome. 350,000 is a hefty chunk.
Given the amount is greater than 99% of QF members will ever earn, I would assume QF will offer some type of deal.

From one perspective, the fact you don't fly QF and didn't seem overly committed to rekindling the relationship suggests you've only 'lost' the points for the redemption flight that you had proposed to take. The balance was academic as it was meaningless to you.

I don't suppose that eases your mind?

Thanks and congratulations on your new Tesla - you're going to love it! Tesla and QF announced a partnership about six months ago. They then emailed all Tesla owners and asked if we had an existing QFF number and then added free membership to our accounts. You should be able to get hooked up at the Tesla Store or Service Centre.
