Just thought quite a few would make the journey to see finals footy at the MCG.
Who will be going?

I live here - as a Full AFL member I will be going to a few games ...been to a Grand Final every year since 1991.

(OT, I'll also be going to the NRL GF)

I'm flying PER-MEL-PER the grand final weekend, but for a wedding not football. I booked months ago and at the time was wondering why flights were so damned expensive that weekend until I remembered when the grand final was normally held. Still managed to get the 6,900 points + cash Virgin business specials at that time, so can't complain too much - just had to fly a red-eye a day early and via Sydney on the way back to do it.

That is great for you Serfty.
I tend to go to Grand Finals just to see a Perth team pick up the silverware so that is not too often. We tend to get scalped $1700 if we aren't in the Grand Final.

Just got to MEL from Perth for the Hawks vs West Coast game (go eagles!!).

Unlikely to travel for finals due to Uni exams, so I decided to come this weekend in lieu :).

If eagles make grand final (unlikely IMO) then I will be on a plane for sure!

How do you become a full AFL member Serfty?
Is it a deal like buying Indian Pacific unsecured notes for WCEagles seats?

Become an AFL 'silver' member which get you all your teams home games as well as another 29 at Docklands/MCG and all Victorian Weeks 1 and Week 2 finals.

You then go onto a waiting list for "Full" membership. Currently that's about 7 years give or take a couple.

I think there are additional restrictions for Weagles supporters as well.

A bit more on AFL Membership cove - if you ever want tix to Eagles or Freo games at MCG I can purchase Guest Passes for home and away matches you - $28.50 ea I think from memory.

I also have 4 seats at Docklands you can have almost any game that Weagles or Freo play there if you want and you claim them early enough - I just use them for family and business uses.

Yesterday received the booklet with full info for finals matches for AFL members - I will scan it and post relevent pages as soon as I can get Photoshop to work as seems I got some problem.

I can get you guest passes for AFL Members reserve for weeks 1 to 3 of finals if Weagles or Dockers are playing - check the images when I do post them.

Thanks for the input Serfty and Cruiser Elite.
We have actually been Dockers supporters since they started and there is no silverware currently in the cabinet.
Love to receive the "how to " booklet as we are able to travel at short notice

I'm keeping an eye out for cheap 'leaving' fares away for the w/end. I remember back in 2000 (I think it was 2000) when WCE were in the finals. AN and QF put on a truckload of additional flights shipping 'em over here. I managed to get a return w/end in PER for $200 (and the planes were empty; an entire row of 6 seats on an A320 to myself).

Yep - used to be plenty of 747 'back fill' flights specials.

On "Form", there's likely to be a Geelong v Dockers Game. Best chance for Guest pass availability if at the MCG.

I'm also flying to Mel for a wedding that weekend but we arrive during the grand final. That resulted in a cheaper fare. :)

(If you happen to be going over for a wedding for people named K and L on Tuesday drop me a PM :)

Ken and Len? :)

I'm flying QF DRW-ASP-MEL on Friday for the first week of the finals. Still a full AFL even though I now live in DRW. Return on Sunday MEL-SYD-DRW

Different wedding - for my one the ceremony starts about 10 mins before the bounce. I don't think that they are footy fans, but fortunately neither particularly am I.

It's a concept that Tuggers supporters have long dreamed about but are very unlikely to experience this millennium :D

And this wont be the year that the Tuggeranong Hawks win the flag so hang in there for 2013.

As a Richmond supporter I am untroubled by finals. I can safely book september holidays in January and not fear missing anything.
