Over the next two weeks I should finally tick over to WP. As my work won't let me fly in anything but deepest discount Y this is all pretty much done in Y- (the even reason that the amount they fly us, it's cheaper to buy a new flight if needed than constantly buy flexi). I manage to game SQ a bit for full Y earn, but most of it is done in Y-.

But I see a lot of posts of people who are more concerned with not hitting the Eligible Sectors rather than status credits.

Am just interested to see who else here is another BIS Y- WP?

As my travel is unlikely to ever see me go above Y-, I would also be interested in some tips to see how people who really aren't likely to see the pointy end anytime soon get maximum benefit out of WP.

Hi grubbidok,

All mine are BIS el cheapo fares too. All mine is self funded for work.

I'm platinum with virgin, gold elite with airnz and gold with qantas...

I've had a squillion seats up the back next to the toilets over the years,

Only tip I can offer... Get window seats so you can sleep against the side of the plane instead of waking up cuddled up to a bikie

;)

Platinum and partner platinum here -- almost all is on Y-. I've rarely if ever bought J and 8/10 fares are discount Y except where the price difference to a flexi is really low or i actually intend to upgrade.

Having said that, i've taken advantage of family pooling which means probably a couple of hundred extra SCs from my wife and son. I've also taken advantage of some of the SC promos on redemption tickets earlier this year which scored me a few more. But basically i've made at least plat - and partner gold - on mostly discount Y ever year they've had it.

Me too (just about to requal Plat for the second time), although I do manage to swing full Y SCs from SQ occasionally!

Great achievements.

If I put all my domestic flying to Virgin I would get 600-700SCs.

I could then make a run to Platinum with 3-4 returns to Thailand in SQ economy but that would be too painful.

I've never paid for a J ticket, but I've taken my share of comp upgrades (which requires a Flexi fare of course). Otherwise, everything for me is at the Saver Lite level. Backing off the fortnightly travel for me this fin year, so expecting a drop to SG.

Yep. All -Y flying for me, domestically, with the exception of a couple of flexis which I booked only to use the free upgrades.

I've flown enough to re-qual and through pooling get Mrs D-H to within about 100SCs of retaining Plat too (she got there initially through some international travel last year).

Same here, 90% back of the bus el cheapo economy

Yup, me too & partner gold. I have to justify why I spend anything above saver, so am always looking for flight times where flexi is just more expensive than saver (that said, I think we get a corporate discount for flexis & my boss does not know about VAs fly-ahead benefit!)

I too am BIS in Y- for domestic travel however at least when we do overseas we can fly Y+ when the flight is over 8 hours. Because my adult children and wife love travelling we all family pool and because of this we have 3 x Platinum's in the house with our youngest on Silver. We run a spread sheet and we strategically change the family pooling around to maximise the points and the benefits. However for the first time we have had to do a status run to get SWMBO over the line. For us however we also do a lot over overseas travel. My wife and daughter who are both nurses do zero travel for work yet they still cam maintain platinum for the last 2 years. In other words if you can family pool then take advantage of that.

I'm a cheap-as-chips flyer as well. -Y all the way if I can. Like 777, I too have beneftited from family pooling and I've also benefited from VA stuff-up fares but as I'm currently in the 2000 SCs range somewhere and requaled plat with a month and also gained partner plat within about 4 months, I'd guess I was well over the mark on BIS -Y, too.

Just the type of high maintenance low yield flyer VA probably DON'T want!

All Y for me. With help from a couple of promos, wife on partner Plat and daughter on Gold.

I must be marginally behind you! My daughter would be silver via a shift in family pooling, except the only benefit I could see was a new card for her (she has managed to lose hers) but the problems with family pooling changes has meant I dare not change! (I did try and it sent it all haywire and I was lucky to get it restored to what it was with the assistance of the GCC). Apart from the new card, the only other benefit (that we're not likely to need any time soon) was a few piddly points and an extra 23kgs!
