ANZ Platinum, 50k bonus QFF points after $1500 spend, no annual fee first year

Rang and cancelled one card today, very unpleasant experience getting grilled by ANZ staff. I've learnt my lesson, if it happens again, will immediately request to talk to the supervisor.

Why call at all? I always send a letter, which states that I have cancelled, they need to send me a final statement and that I wont be liable for any further charges. Sometimes they do call to follow up. At which time I make it clear that the card has already been cancelled and I have a new one with a different provider.

I must have been lucky - I called to cancel mine this week, the lady on the phone was very friendly and cancelled it without any hassle.

When she asked me why I just mentioned that the VISA earn rate (0.5 points per dollar) was a bit low and that I was using a different VISA card now that offers 1 point per dollar. She seemed to accept this and went ahead with the cancellation.

My 50k point bonus came in a few months ago though, and I'm a long-term banking customer of ANZ, so that might have something to do with it...

I am thinking of applying for one of these cards, maybe both. The only thing that is putting me off is the annual fee. Would I be right in assuming that the 'no annual' fee in the name of this thread applied to a previous version of this offer as I can't see anything on the current offer page indicating the first year has no annual fee?

Yes. Check the date of the first post.

Well now I have to find pin number as anz pay cash advance from positive credit on this card over the counter for FREE! BT yes that's me into this card!

Given ANZ has a large branch network can you cancel in person? Seems preferable to phrasing a letter or waiting on hold.

Not sure about ANZ but I've tried exactly that with Commbank: all they will do in branch is call the call centre, hand you the handset and let you deal with them. You'll get to speak to the same people as if you'd call from home. Was less than impressed.

No. They direct you to the courtesy phone.

Just draft a a standard letter and use it every time you cancel an account. Saves a lot of time waiting on the phone.

Just cancelled mine in branch. I asked if I needed to ring to do it but they were happy to cancel right there on the spot.

Quick Update: ANZ processed BT yesterday and the money is now available on my Citibank card. Excellent deal to extend my 0% 6 month Citibank BT. :)

Lucky you, I tried calling twice for 2 different ANZ cards and they wouldn't give me anything other than the standard 5-10% balance transfer offers. I asked about 0% but they said only for new card applications, I may have to cancel and see if I can get them to offer...

The points should be credited after the first "eligible spend" (as opposed to $1,500 as per the title), right?

That IS why someone created a new thread for this new offer but everyone seems determined to do the talking in this one.

Also wondering about how long after the first spend. It's been 4 days for me, still nothing on the bonus points front.

But just this morning the annual fee got debited but neither the fee nor the first transaction appears on the transaction list. Under the reward points section the points for the first spend came through -wasn't aware ANZ round to the nearest 10 cents as opposed to CBA and AMEX that round to the nearest dollar.

Sometime in the subsequent three months

The bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your account within three months of your first eligible purchase. If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card account before the introductory bonus Qantas Points are processed to your account, you may become ineligible for these bonus Qantas Points.

Thanks for taking the time to copy and paste the part of the first bullet point of the offer that I already read and agreed to when signing up for the ANZ card. I'm afraid you misinterpreted or misread my question. It wasn't 'What did ANZ stipulate in the offer on the time frame for the bonus points?'. I would be questioning my own intelligence and awareness levels if I thought anywhere near that line.

And if you're still doubting the nature of my query, it was directed to others about their experience. :D
