I have an ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa, and ANZ Frequent Flyer American Express and just received the letter.
Receive up to 54,000 points a year, great news, gives me the incentive to switch as the fees start in early December good reason to try something different.

Once you try black you'll never look back.

Called ANZ
I cant switch the Black for my Platinum in my loan package :(
i have the ANZ Break free package which only allows the FF Platinum and Black Rewards. It doesnt allow the FF Black :(
Would have been cool to get cause i would only have to pay the $55 rewards programme fee as i am now. Maybe in time they will add it..

Mate now is a good time to look at non-QFF options. I did this about a year ago and am now earning 2x velocity points as QFF points. Clearly and is killing the QF option as QFF try to increase the price of points.

I agree. I've managed to get the FF Black fee free for the first year, but I reckon after that I'll cancel or go over to rewards black, or perhaps rewards platinum if that Amex remains uncapped.

Given all that's going on, I've decided to only keep enough QF points for my immediate domestic J travel plans, plus maybe 200K for future domestic J bookings and top that up as necessary. Any points spending over that can go to Citi, Altitude or Amex Rewards for more flexibility.

I called anz today and requested a transfer to the black card. Interestingly I was instructed to request a limit increase on my current card in the first instance. A transfer would be actioned based on a successful request. Presumably you would not qualify for the 50K points following those instructions.

I just called and and have been transferred across to the Black now as well.

Shame I didn't do it earlier with the 50,000k points promo :(

But I'm loving .75 points per $1 on the visa!!!

Interesting. I have received an ANZ letter stating my Platinum Visa points earn stays the same 0.5 points/dollar on purchases up to $6 000 but my Platinum AMEX earn increases to 1.5 points/dollar up to $6 000 per statement. This gives me a max. of 12 000 points/month or 144 000 points/year. As the special card fee is lower than anybody else I am not changing.

I was always getting 1.5points/$1 for Amex?

I looked at my last statement which didn't have much spend and I got 7644 points for visa purchase so each month I would be losing.

I got the letter on Friday so went into a branch today and they were happy enough to lift my limit from 9k to 16k and move me over to the Black.

Might have to go into a branch. Do you know if they did a Veda search/hit.

That's OK if you only spend that much in a month but if you spend 6k plus a week then the card isn't worth jack sheep

Are you getting it fee free for first year still?

My limit is 15k so might ask to change to black when I get my letter

Wouldn't you be better off using a Woolworths QFF card for 1 point per $?

Possibly but I put quite a lot of business purchases on it and I think that would get flagged with the Woolies one.

Plus we have our own business so to get a card with a min $20k limit, I wouldn't have those financials to prove earnings anymore as I got this anz credit card while I was still working full time and my husband ran out business before kids.

Dear ANZ

Thank you for the letter advising me that you have no capped my points @ $6000 for my Amex and Visa card.

Please be advised that I will be capping my spend to $5999 per month as per your rquest.

Can i assume that you will be adjusting my credit card limit down to reflect the new amount

Thank you for helping me reduce my spend on credit card

regards

Clazman

PS ANZ can you recommend any banks that don't give you a credit card that give you a limit with less than 25% possible rewards

I recieved my letter yesterday.... and you can see the steam coming from my ears I am that angry...

I am a Gold Card Holder (grandfathered card- no longer offered) and have been a loyal ANZ card holder for 10 years always high spend each month... the letter said they were capping my Visa at $2000 spend and my Amex at $2000 spend... which is LESS THAN CLASSIC TODAY! ($3000 on each card), BUT they also REDUCED my earn rate on my Visa from 1 point/Per $1 to 0.5 points....

WHAT A JOKE!!! ANZ have no LOYALTY what so ever.... Poor Form ANZ, way to treat your long term loyal customers..

for all those who are in the same boat as me... go to qantas .com/cards to go to the card selector (which is fantastic!)

I am cancelling the ANZ card and going to a Credit Union (BankMECU or Qantas CU) cards who have 1Point per $1 dollar (uncapped) at a low annual fee and I know they wont screw me over like a big bank...

I am also a Classic ANZ Gold FF Visa holder (no longer available) and have been for in excess of 13 years. I received the same letter with the same enhancements and capping. I have written to ANZ (who conveniently do not provide an address anywhere for correspondence except to pay the card) telling them how unimpressed I am. I note the enhancements do not include a reduction in my fee which is $150 per year ($95 plus $55) so the card is no longer viable, but I cannot help thinking that was their plan. Anyway that will terminate my relationship with ANZ which has been in place for over 35 years. I am off to look at QF CU as a replacement. Well done ANZ and goodbye.

Yes, I'm another one who's been an ANZ customer for longer than I can remember. Agree that now is a good time to shop around for a better deal. It seems the NAB Platinum is better value than we were getting even before this slashing from ANZ. Cheaper annual fee, no additional cardholder fee and a cap that I'll never reach!

Adios ANZ; I wonder how many customers you'll lose as a result of this! Quite a lot based on what we're reading here

Sdtravel don't accept a "no" from ANZ as an answer on this. Hubby and I also have the Breakfree package for our loans (one home and one investment property) with the Platinum FF Visa/Amex. When we received the letter hubby called ANZ and were given the same answer that you were. In fact, it was all very vague and the person in the call centre said that maybe they will add it in the future but not now.

This change hugely disadvantages us, so I spoke directly to our lender (who is part of ANZ) and said this is unacceptable, if we don't get given a fee free FF Black card then we consider taking our loans elsewhere. We were quite happy to follow through on this too, I'm sick of ANZ changing the T&Cs whenever they see fit that dilutes the value of the card so was quite happy to go to another bank.

After several days, the lender came back and said that ANZ have agreed to allow an exception for us.

If you have over 500K of lending with ANZ, are a reliable payer and a good customer then you should push this, it's unacceptable!

Good luck
p4to

Good point
I have emailed my broker now and will see what they come back with.

Although i dont know if i can play the "Im going to move if i dont get it" card as some of the loans are joint with family who might not be so happy to move.
We have a good portfolio as well so maybe just the enquiry might be enough to get it going.

Us two both ANZ Plats for 14 years, was going to buy car using ANZ Visa but not now, be looking elsewhere, ANZ have made a big mistake doing this IMO

I can't play that game because my credit limits are stupidly high with some banks. So my new game is downgrade the card to the cheapest product they offer and don't use it at all but pay the fee to keep the credit line active. One day it will be useful again when there is a new card product worth using!

Rang to cancel today and they offered to credit my account with the annual fee (which I'd just paid in August) if I keep the card open for another 3 months! So I'll happily collect the credit then cancel in the three months!
