ANZ QFF card earn rates enhanced™

Re: ANZ QFF/Rewards card earn rates enhanced™

Agree Spongbob and am considering my options. I have the Jetstar card which is presently still 1QFF per $ for annual fee of $169 ( just charged so no immediate increase) to a monthly limit of $2500.... Like everything however I suspect the points earning will reduce shortly. No other visa/MasterCard seems close.

Re: ANZ QFF/Rewards card earn rates enhanced™

CatherineC, increasing your annual fee by $200 for no additional benefit (indeed fewer benefits with the end of the ANZ AMEX) does seem to be a good reason to cancel your card ANZ QFF Black Visa. But, is there another card that will give you 1 QFF point for each dollar spent that has an annual fee of less than $295?

I'm not a big spender so my perspective is to look at the opportunity cost of a card offering 0.75 points. Even I was to spend $20k a year, that's only 5k points foregone. Obviously, those spending bigger dollars will be impacted more.

Re: ANZ QFF/Rewards card earn rates enhanced™

Firstly I haven't read through this entire thread, so my apologies if this has already been posted, but I thought this might be of interest to some. The other day I rang ANZ to cancel my ANZ QF black card as it wasn't worth me keeping anymore, following the changes (which I politely explained to the CSR).

The CSR offered me an extra 1pt/$ on my spend for the next three months if I kept the card. That takes the earn rate to 2pts/$ on Visa and 2.5pts/$ on AMEX (until the end it) for the next three months - which I thought was too bad.

I agreed to keep the card for the next three months.

Re: ANZ QFF/Rewards card earn rates enhanced™

I'm with ANZ, and I am concerned what to do about the loss of the Amex and the drop in points, as apart from a couple of overseas trips with QF annually, most of my earns are through the cards.
I have a considerable amount of money with them, maybe I should threaten to take it elsewhere? My ability to get new cards is lessened now that I am retired, and don't have a huge annual income, though I am probably asset rich.

Re: ANZ QFF/Rewards card earn rates enhanced™

Is the proposed point reduction date the same for everyone or does it relate to the anniversary of the card ??

Re: ANZ QFF/Rewards card earn rates enhanced™

August the 5th was noted in their letter to me, that is not my card's anniversary. :-)

Musongman, my strong advice is to guard whatever cards you have. In my experience, they will be renewed without further proof of income, whereas to take out any new credit card the bank will want payslips to prove income, and are reluctant to accept any proof of retirement income from super or pension, especially if it is irregular and/or goes into more than one account.

My letter says 5 August too, so I think it's the same for everyone. My anniversary date is February.

While I understand your logic (I'm also retired) It's makes no sense for me to keep my ANZ black card as I also have a Bank Australia Visa card with an uncapped 1:1 earning rate and $186 annual fee. After 5/8 when the ANZ Amex goes I will be left with the ANZ Visa with $7500 capped and 1:1 earning rate for $425 annual fee!

My anniversary is September and I have booked overseas travel after that with the Amex but am assured by QBE that, even I cancel both ANZ cards the complimentary travel insurance will still be valid so long as I can prove the purchases and the return journey.

On the downside I would like to access international lounges using the complimentary Qantas Club passes and the Veloce lounge access when not in a J seat. I'm hoping they might agree to either a largely reduced annual fee or no fee for the next year when I ring up to cancel.

I phoned the 1300 number in the letter and told the agent I wanted a pro rata refund. He said, politely, that wasn't an option. I said I'd paid a fee for something that was about to be withdrawn. Hold. Pro rata refund.

I'll cancel the card before my next annual fee is due and take out their cheapest FF card (which I think is only $95 annually) in order to keep the insurances which I've come to understand and rely on.

That card doesn't come with insurances IIRC

Bank Australia has not made any changes to the product since it was launched, so I wouldn't rely on that earn rate in the long run. Best to let the dust settle and then decide. :)

... plus Bank Australia has ApplePay.

So 1:1 earning uncapped, low fee, ApplePay. Why wouldn't you?!
