This story didn't make sense to me. Why bother tracking a specific random person from the airport? Enough tourists that can be followed on the streets without the expense of losing airtags. Also they said the airtag was "Made in Indonesia" which none are.
But the protections are not cross-platform
I believe the concern was the ladies believed they could be being stalked by someone. That someone would have been able to track their luggage to whatever accom they were using.
Also the made in Indonesia part was the battery, which they took out to disable the device when they found it. I have no idea if that is common for AirTag batteries or not.
