Apple Airtags

Mate of mine was broken into recently and had two cars stolen (Coorparoo in BNE). Tracked the cars using air tags. Police confirmed the cars were used in three more break-ins that day. Then tracked to where the cars were dumped. Imma get some.

first time I secured my airtags in with the spare wheel and dropped in behind the side wall cavity. it was amazing how quickly it came around to needing to replace the battery. now it's just under some felt under the wheel which is secured in place and under the cargo area flooring.

A dedicated car tracker may be more useful for you; they are more reasonable in cost and performance these days.

A mate of mine uses air tags to manage his fleet of golf clubs. He has 4 sets stored at various site throughout Australasia, to save carrying them about.

But as he will sometimes go to other cities/countries, and then not return to orignal departure city, he was losing track of where he left his golf clubs. Occasionly he turned up to his overseas stash, only to find that his clubs ended up at another stash on the previous trips.

Now that he has his Airtags, he can quickly check where everything is. I like his logic, but I PMSL when he told me about that.

Recently our luggage did not arrive with us in YVR after connecting flights HAV-MEX-YVR.

Lodged incident report with AeroMexico for delayed/lost luggage.

Staff member said their system says luggage was not loaded in HAV and they would need to try and find it in HAV.

I said “well thats a bit unusual as the internal air tags say the bag was in the luggage area of MEX Terminal 2 33 minutes ago”

Stunned silence!

Interesting feature update

It’s a nice feature but will it work in SYD? Mine show me where they are pretty much anywhere else except when passing through SYD with a checked bag. The airtag reports it is still at the airport I left from until it gets on the carousel at the final destination.
I find the tracking offered by Qantas to be pretty basic so still use the airtags for reassurance.

Maybe all the Qantas bag handlers have android phones? Once on the carousel, the air tag connects to hundreds of passenger iPhones. 😉

Nothing to do with location and everything to do with nearby bluetooth signal to an Apple device

I find some aircraft / airports seem to work better (for want of a better phrase) to see your bag has moved from checkin, on to some holding point, to near aircraft and then “with you” ie very close by.

Seeing something like “Your Luggage was last seen 2000kms away 5 hrs ago” is usually a good sign that it’s been sitting in the plane hold for that last 5 hrs.

As above, a lot of that has to do with how many Bluetooth enable iDevices are in kooee. If luggage is manually loaded, you’re more like to see it “onboard”. I assume some aircraft/airlines place luggage in containers? Because you just don’t get pings at all and your bag was last seen “5 hrs ago”.

If it says “5mins ago” and still where you departed - then get worried!

I've noticed that the Airtag batteries last about one year. So being the efficient traveller I removed the batteries in my suitcases when I'm not travelling.

Well now I can't find one of them that I put sans battery. It was last seen as at the date of my last return. Annoying but it will be found.
