Apple Airtags

Thanks , that was the whole reason I wanted to know. If other phones/watch can detect those will they be of any use to me ? Sorry , I have got 4 apple tags but still not very confident using them hence these confusions. Will give it a try in my next trip overseas.
Your overseas trip is not the best time to test your airtags. Can I suggest dong some local testing leaving one in your car or in your backpack.

The good thing is they just work.

And so no need to test locally. Once they are paired - just use them.
I have one that is always much slower than the others to reflect location. And by that I mean, lagging by hours. Its now labelled and left at home. Too worrisome seeing it registering as the departure airport when you are already 8 hours done and in the next airport lounge for an hour or so.

both bags originally went to Manchester instead of Edinburgh, then Belfast a few days later. they both travelled in different directions after that. Dublin, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and finally one ending up in Charles de Gaulle and the other Edinburgh. Suitcases travelled everywhere from July before ending up at different airports.
thanks for your reply
Well set in motion a claim for lost baggage. You are entitled to up to E1600. Should get them moving.
The company has to reimburse you for the amount of necessary expenses you can prove to have incurred — up to approximately €1,600 per passenger (Montreal Convention).

  • If your damage is less than €1,600, you will only be entitled to reimbursement for the amount of your loss.
  • If your damage is more than €1,600, you will only be entitled to a compensation equal to this maximum.

I have Tiles and would suggest testing them locally before a trip. They usually track punctually but the location can be jumpy (i.e. not accurate). E.g. I might be doing Central - Penrith train in Sydney but the Tile tracking keeps wandering off-course from the train line.

The local testing gives you an idea of what to expect, especially if you are travelling to a location with potentially less "beacons" (i.e. phones/devices actively scanning Tiles) to read yours.

Air Tags are great, they let you know where your luggage is. Unfortunately, they are for your benefit only as in our case the airline wasn't interested in knowing where our luggage was and didn't want to take that information into consideration when I spoke to them. one bag is in Charles de Gaulle and the other is in Edinburgh and I am here in Australia with no hope or reconnecting with our luggage.
I had a similar experience with British Airways, they were not interested in using the Airtag location to help them find my bag, I just had to wait for staff to eventually locate it and send it on its way.

Once you've filed a report with the airline you should be able to check any updates on the WorldTracer.aero website.

And you can claim for any essential items that you've had to purchase while you wait for the bag's return.

Some of our checked luggage missed the connection last Wednesday MAN x CDG - MLA

Airtags meant we knew on arrival, we were given a file reference and a link to WorldTracer.Aero (but it didn’t work And still doesn't). We saw the bags arrive in Malta yesterday, and a few hours later got a call from Air Malta to say they would be delivered today after 9am, but no exact time as the courier had many stops etc. we are in an Airbnb so had to be there to accept them, 9.15 we watched the bags move from the Airport to Malta Mail Plc arriving at 9.30, (3 miles from us) then nothing, called at noon and told deliveries were in the afternoon and call back after 2 if we hadnt received them - 2 rolls by we try calling - no answer, keep trying and still nothing, looked up the site and they close at 2…. Call the international number on the email and they say nothing they can do as the bags have been handed over to the courier but delivery takes up to 2 business days so call back Monday and they would arrange to forward the bags on to our next stop if we hadn’t received them.

Ended up getting an Uber at 3 to where the AirTags were, and collected them in a few minutes from a busy mail centre with the help of the Airtags - we wouldn't have had them delivered today for our early morning flight tomorrow.

We lost a full day, and missed getting to the places we wanted to see, but at least it is not continuing onto the next destination

Glad you got your bags @Steady though bummer you missed a day🤔
Similar for us, though we were at a hotel in Lisbon and Reception could accept our bags.
They did a full circuit of Lisbon for 30+ hours before being delivered.
Airtags showed them heading back to the Airport twice!

Air tags are the best investment - wouldn't travel without them.
Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Well done but what a pain!

Two of my tags showed low battery, so I went to replace. As pushka said up-thread, there is no 'live' battery gauge, just a low level warning in Find My). The back on one unscrewed effortlessly (you put two fingers/two thumbs either side of the back disc and twist), the other wouldn't budge. Nope, no way.

So I googled and found a tip to wear washing up gloves. It untwisted, but still with difficulty. Comments on google suggest that its a random thing.

I replaced one battery a few weeks ago and also had trouble opening the AirTag. However, I often use the rubber washing up gloves for better grip, so did that straight away. In case I was missing something, I practised on a second Tag; it opened very easil!

The airtag is a good feature maybe more of insurance you know where it is
Was flying Alaska LAX-EWR and had to check the bag due to liquids
While inflight I check that the bag was on the flight which was good.

And this one from June, I had a 5 hour connection so checked in the bag and left the airport, it was good the bag was loaded on the aircraft. PER-BNE after getting off LHR-PER.

I've got two that are showing low battery so I'm going to leave them until I go away again and replace them all at once then but will have to remember that trick

Had similar issue opening one of five airtags plus after opening, it was very difficult to twist closed 😕

Took the offender back to the local Apple store (with receipt), demonstrated the problem and promptly received a replacement 😊
