Apple Airtags

I wonder what it sounds like in the baggage room on a quiet night. A small orchestra of Air tags playing their tunes as they move around. But the baggage rooms are pretty noisy I suppose, might not hear them.

I have a few Air Tags and it's been helpful a few times. The other day I had to get a hold of my partner, but she forgot her phone at home when she took the kid to the park, and I didn't know which park. So I just tracked the car to the park she went to and drove over there.

I've never had a bag go missing whilst traveling, which makes me a unicorn I know, but I had put tags in each suitcase now

This development looks good

Now it’s about to get easier to track down a piece of lost luggage, with airlines and airports joining the hunt using the AirTag’s real-time location finding tech.

Apple is working with Qantas to allow AirTag users to temporarily share the location of an AirTagged bag with the airline, based on an update to its iPhone software due for release in early December (just in time for the summer holiday travel surge).

Had 2 a-bit-scary experiences with airtags recently. Arrivals at HEL and MIA, checked location of my checked bag at the baggage carousel and both "not found". . The bag came out about 30 secs later for one, and 10 mins later for the other.

I had an airtag fall out of my laptop case on a flight from LST-MEL last week. Didn't realise until I had left the airport, thankfully with the laptop. Someone has clearly picked it up, and it's now chilling in Sunbury. I have activated lost mode with a message including my mobile number, but it has clearly been ignored. Oh well.

Can you make the list mode message say: “Hello aircraft cleaner living at 10 Supper St, Sunbury. Would you be so kind to post my AirTag back to <insert PO Box or PO collection here>”

Offer a gift card?
Annoyingly you can't actually change the message, you can only provide your mobile number which appears separately to the generic message. At ~$30, it's probably not worth paying for postage and offering a reward.

I think you're right - seems like a crew member has picked it up and kept it in their bag. It's on its way to Canberra onboard QF1274.
or it’s still onboard the same plane and the cleaners haven’t found it? It would be a huge coincidence that someone found it and then hopped back on the same plane?

Anyway, maybe you need a new thread to post updates of its journey? A bit like the device that clocked up a few FF points going TT a couple times!

Indeed Syd.. a new travel promo opportunity for AFF.. a new category of trip reports

They could call it …. Tales of Tagging along with a stranger..

Just imagine the stories some of these tags could tell

Post in the trip report thread @CaptainCurtis, on behalf of your adventurous little airtag!! 🤣

or some play on “Finding Nemo”? “Where’s Wally?” “Catch me if you can!”…😁

Unless the aircraft spent a few days in Sunbury, I think a crew member has more likely picked it up and kept it in their bag. Why? No idea.

Back on QF1277 to Melbourne.

The “Sunbury” ping could have been a false report?

If it keeps following VH-X4D it could be in a seat back pocket or down the side of the seat?

It was pinged a number of times in Sunbury, every few minutes at times. I'd say the return to VH-X4D is just a coincidence - there's only 4 of the A220's from memory, so not implausible.
