I went to local outlet in Highett anf cheapest they had was $100/mth - and booked solid. Would love to find an el cheapo anywhere in MEL so you if somebody can share the info pls do.

They didn't call me back within a few days as promised. I called after 8 days.

But they remembered me when I mentioned Aquire

And then didn't call me back again this afternoon!

I'll call them again tomorrow.

The screen on your phone might wear out before you get a call back, let alone the points ;).

Another Aquire flop.

I was credited with the bonus points today. Storage King West Heidelberg were swift entering my details for the bonus but informed me that there was a delay from Aquire crediting them to my account. All up, I received the bonus points 52 days from sign up.

Did you have to chase them up? How long from sign-up to crediting would it have been?

I'm very glad some are receiving them, as it can't be good for Qantas to promote partners who then stuff around their customers. Doesn't engender any sort of loyalty :p

I followed-up with Storage King who were swift in addressing my questions. Didn't need to contact Aquire after dealing with SK, but I would chase both parties to be sure.

I think I remember reading in the fine print that points would be credited after 30 days from sign up. Can't remember though.

Did you end up actually storing anything with them?

They're throwing me a curve ball claiming that because I didn't ever store anything with them my claim for bonus points isn't valid. Sent me this email this morning:

Thanks for your follow up regarding your eligibility for Aquire points.

After investigating all the circumstances surrounding your request for points, I will need to let you know that under the terms and conditions these points are not eligible for the previous two rentals of self-storage.

1. Acacia Ridge- offer of 1 month’s Free - not moved into storage.
2. Southport- offer of Pay 1 month, get 2nd month’s storage free – not moved into storage

In both these circumstances, only paperwork was completed but no goods were moved into the storage to activate the rental and constitute a complete purchase. This is contrary to the terms and conditions of the program. You have not used the service at all and it appears to be an intent to fraudulently claim reward points without using our service.

Further to this, it is important to highlight particular points with the terms and conditions

8.1 states The Program Partner reserves the right to terminate a Member’s participation in the Reward Scheme or withhold or cancel Aquire Points claimed under the Reward Scheme if a Member or any of the Member’s representatives has attempted to claim Aquire Points under the Reward Scheme to which they were not entitled.
Points are issued when the storage is actually used which you haven’t done.

I don't believe I can find any information that suggests I need to have actually moved items into storage to constitute the storage being active.

6. Earning Aquire Benefits
6.1 Subject to the exclusions, limitations and other conditions specified in this clause 6, the Program Partner will award Aquire Benefits to Members at the applicable rate specified in the Program Partner Earn Table, or in any special offer, for Eligible Products paid for by the Member for the Member’s business related purposes.

6.4 To earn Aquire Benefits in relation to an Eligible Product, the Member must quote its ABN and at the time of purchasing an Eligible Product or completing a storage agreement in the name of the Acquire member and must comply with any other requirements or procedures advised by the Program Partner prior to the purchase.

6.6 Members must provide the Program Partner on request with documented verification of the purchase of an Eligible Product. The Program Partner reserves the right to deny or revoke the crediting of Aquire Points at any time if the Program Partner determines that Aquire Points were improperly obtained or erroneously credited.to a Member’s Membership Account.

7. Crediting Aquire Points
7.1 The Program Partner will endeavour to instruct Aquire Loyalty to credit the applicable number of Aquire Points to the Membership Account within 30 days after the purchase of an Eligible Product. It is the responsibility of the Member to check that the correct number of Aquire Points has accumulated in the Membership Account.

7.2 Claims for the crediting of Aquire Points retrospectively must be made by the Member to the Program Partner within 90 days after the purchase of an Eligible Product. Unless otherwise specified by Aquire Loyalty, claims for the crediting of Aquire Points cannot be made if the Membership is not current or if the Membership Account was not active at the time the Eligible Product was purchased.

8. Suspension or termination of a Member or Aquire Points
8.1 The Program Partner reserves the right to terminate a Member’s participation in the Reward Scheme or withhold or cancel Aquire Points claimed under the Reward Scheme if a Member or any of the Member’s representatives has attempted to claim Aquire Points under the Reward Scheme to which they were not entitled.

The Definitions of the T&C do not include one for what a current membership is and certainly make no reference to actually having to store anything at the premises.

I think I'm being shafted and haven't fallen foul of the conditions.

Can someone help me word a response and take this to the next level?

I didn't store anything with them and received the points. Don't see why you would have to. It's your business if you store anything there or not, isn't it?

I would have thought so. I did intend to move things into storage, but ultimately ran out of time to do so. Now I'm being penalised because I'm busy apparently :p I don't see how that can fly as an acceptable excuse. Their main point seems to be that I needed to store goods to constitute a complete purchase, and they point to their T&C for this, but I can't find words to that effect, can you?

There was nothing in the terms and conditions of the offer that specified having to move in, all that was required was entering into (ie signing) a contract.

This is yet another example of a loyalty promotion that was not properly thought through before launching and after people more intelligent than those who launched it worked out how to extract value from it, those who launched it are now trying to weasel their way out of it by making up non-existent terms and conditions.

I would be going to the Airline Customer Advocate for this.

I'm now reading the back of my storage agreement that I filled out when I signed up (it's big), with my emphasis added by use of underline. Can't really see much that would apply other than the first line of section 1, which suggests I may store things, but don't have to. Section 10 suggests if I have determined the Goods I want to store wont fit/meet other requirements in the storage space, I don't have to store them.

STORAGE
1. The Storer:
a) may store Goods in the Space allocated to the Storer by the Facility Owner ("FO"), and only in that Space;

ACCESS AND CONDITIONS
10. The Storer:
(e )will use the Space solely for the purpose of storage and shall not carry on any business or other activity in the Space;
(j) is solely responsible for determining whether the Space is appropriate and suitable for storing the Storer's Goods, having specific consideration for the size, nature and condition of the Space and Goods.

I went there, and I'm not sure it would fall under anything, but maybe "loyalty/frequent flyer program"... so I called Aquire and filled them in, let them know I was going to be taking this route and making a complaint, and as part of that process had to make a complaint to them first. May have also let slip there could be a few friends of Platinum level and above who will undoubtedly also face this wall at some stage and they might not be the sort of customers you want to be promoting to partners who don't pay out the promised points.

They're going to call me back.

"may" does not hold any legal weight in requiring the party to do something. If they had wanted to force you to store something they should have used "shall".

SK cannot get out of giving you your bonus points on this wording alone.

That's what I had thought, but I'm giving Aquire the chance to come to the party before I reply to SK (though the email actually came from "Town Crier Marketing (on behalf of the Storage King Group)").

Thinking I need to find their general T&C's as well though, as the only ones I have access to are the Storage King "Aquire" terms, the Aquire "Storage King" terms and the agreement on the back of the form I signed, all 3 of which haven't got any words to the effect of storing items making the contract complete. Logic would suggest a signature and payment would complete the contract.

Can they be certain you didn't store that pen you had bought from Staples?

Presumably, and for clarities sake I will acknowledge I didn't store anything with them, as time got away from me and before I knew it I'd run out of time.

When you sign up you're told to create a PIN and then given instructions on how to enter that PIN to enter the facilities without going through the head office. Presumably there's then a record of comings and goings, incase a customer should try to claim something. Perhaps in my case they've gone through the effort of looking at those logs to deny me the bonus points (per their interpretation of the terms) so they can save a few $. They've still made money out of me though, so if anyone is being deceptive here, it's not me! :p

Seems to me that you can't be charged for a purchase that was not completed! Have they refunded your fees?

i was upfront about not necessarily storing my items on the basis that I was doing this as a contingency should the office location in which my items were to be stored was not available ( ie if it was still being renovated) at the same time I had scheduled to relocate my items from the original storage place that was no longer available. When I gave the advised 14 day cancellation notice I said it was more than likely that I wouldnt need to store anything but reserved the right to do so up until the date that I had paid.

This only happened in the middle of last month so I am not expecting to see any points as yet but I will be very annoyed if they try that sort of rebuttal. You might use a similar argument as I did saying the wife gave you an ultimatum to get rid of x and you were concerned your mates shed was not going to be completed in time , and for the sake of matrimonial harmony you took out the storage as a back up plan! You paid your money and they accepted it . Should be end of story. I hope you have success ( as I hope I do )
