Just one note... on the credit card payment page it asks for country... select UK

Dave

...and can you then pay with an Australian issued credit card?
Also, do you have to ring AA to put in your QF FF no.? (altho I know Dave will be saying you should be using your AA number;))

Yup, use your Australian address when paying, though do put country in as UK rather than Australia

To put a QF FF number in, just contact QF

Yes I use Netscape, I will try with those parameters and using IE or Firefox.

Significant difference in $ however!!

Thanks Dave.

Cheers

Must be something with Netscape 'cause it works with Firefox!!

Got the same price as Dave.

I just tried it in Netscape 7.1 and it worked according to the directions given by Dave Noble. Only difference was that it gave me taxes of £ 4.40 for the return trip.

Dave, why do you put Australian address but select UK as country?

The website claims only to take US/CA/UK credit cards so if you put in Australia , it will return an error saying that it doesnt take Ozzian cards. Put UK in and Volia

Dave

Yup and need billing address since it checks against credit card. Fortunately for us it doesnt check all the address info. Note some other airlines reportedly dont accept credit cards from countries like Oz/NZ and this trick also works on them.

Thanks for your advice Dave. Successfully booked a MEL-SYD flight on aa.com, called Qantas to add my FF number, then upgraded it.
Business Class for a mere AUD 116 + 8000 points. But not before chilling at the QP courtesy of the AA Plat Challenge. Man you gotta love AA! :D

I hope its an afternoon flight so you can recoup some of that $116 at the bar :D.

Checked out AA.com, love the savings and have 1 question prior to making a booking.

Is the ticket an E-ticket - emailed to you (if so, roughly how long till you receive the email)

I read an earlier post my Lindsay Wilson saying that you need to ring AA Uk Or USA and have them ticket it, or have it ticketed by AA North Sydney's office. What does all that mean ??

thanks

For Comparison, this worked out at AUD1620 vs the AUD1960 from Qantas.com
Dave

I am not sure how it is related, but recently QANTAS/USA have had lower fares than QANTAS/UK for QANTAS fares based from UK. While AA.com would not book the precise same itinerary, it appeared that AA.com's pricing calculations were very close to those of QANTAS/USA.

Is it AA.com specifically, or purchasing in USA that lowers QANTAS fares?

Depends on the ticketing option you selected. If you selected e-ticket then should get the email straight away (within minutes). Of course not all itins are e-ticketable but a simple intra-oz certainly is.

One thing to remember with booking via AA.com is that whilst an AA (001) e-ticket is issued and is recognised and accepted by QF, the Quick-check machines will not accept that you have an e-ticket.

You will have to check-in either via the QP or one of the check-in counters.

Not sure how this will work when on-line check-in is introduced next month.

Just don't try and use the machines if travelling on an AA (001) ticket.

I did not know this. AA will allow kiosk checkin when using a QF-issues (081) ticket. I just inserted my credit card and it brought up my booking when in the LOTFAP earier this month.

So, if I'm booking a flight SYD-LAX through AA.com, would I have to pick up the ticket from AA North Sydney's office ??

No, an e-ticket will be issued, you will not have to pick up anything.

As long as don't select paper ticket and select country of origin as UK or US/Canada then you get e-ticket.

Does anyone have a good site for calculating up to the minute (or closest) exchange rates top help with price comparisons here... I have an Amex card, but couldn't find their latest rates
Thanks

I tend to use www.xe.com for my FX conversion rates. I find it to be accurate enough for my purposes.

Keep in mind Amex, Visa, MC et.al use rates (based on their own sets of rules and calculations) that may not be similar to the ones presented at XE, or any other site. But for the figures you would be converting, I think you would only be a few dollars off the final figure.
