Are our points worthless now?

A PER --> CNS JASA that cost 70k points and $500 last month, now is $2k and 253k points.

Even classics are expensive.

I fear our points have diminished in value over night.

Is this how they reward loyalty. Just made WP yesterday and now fear I won't be flying QF again!

that is why I stick to AAdvantage, 10k usually gets you anywhere to anywhere else within the AUS/NZ zone, and 17k for J

I would suggest that points have definitely been devalued with this and other program changes over the last couple of years

Qantas has a very strong reputation for being 'expensive' in terms of points redemptions.

That was before the change.

Very heavy heart I'm going VA domestic (currently gold) and UA & SQ international. Just done UA's platinum status match and already am at Air Canada's top tier.

Well we must one of the last to secure a decent points plus pay JASA LHR -MEL last night. Looks pretty grim today.
It was nice while it lasted.
Must wander over VA now for a look

Am I completely missing something here?

I didn't read every last post in the other rather lengthy thread, but from what I understood, the JASAs at classic award rates (from classic award inventory) are still available by calling a certain number, and that the sky isn't falling in yet (although there remains a possibility of that happening in three months time). They are no longer showing on line. Hence they are still available to those who care about them, but not to those who don't know or don't care about them.

If this is the case, how are points worthless?

The utility and value have dropped significantly. The ability to 'shop' for reasonable points cost is severely limited by having to call someone.

But hardly makes QFF worthless. The reaction has been almost bordering on hysteria.

Look online for classic awards, then call up. Or use a service like Expert Flyer that searches for X, U, P inventory, find the right availability and call up.

1) AAdvantage: can you fly local or overseas via Oz and get the points/credits paid unto AA (ie: one world member?)

2) With the changes in the last day, what now is the easiest, best and cheapest (points/ award flights) flight provider and credit card supplier (which points program)?

Meaning: qantas, virgin, others?

Sorry if my question sounds weird.

Have classic awards devalued?

Classic awards haven't changed. They are still expensive compared to Aadvantage.

Still getting my head around the changes. Just did a simple dummy lookup of a SYD-ADL-SYD run in J.

Points + Pay ('JASA' I guess) - 86k points + $1161

Classic award - 48k points + $80

Without an ExpertFlyer subscription is the best hope to give them a call and suggest those flights and basically hope there is ASA award seating at Classic levels? Or is there some other method in play here?

Looks like I'll require an EF Pro account going forward, but if there are any tricks, they'd be good to know.

I did a dummy Perth-Melbourne-Perth on Classic points in Business Class and it was 72,000 points plus about $160. I can live with that seeing I have the two of us as Platinums for a further year and three quarters. I will have to buy some flights after that time.

Burmans you are quite correct. I have not seen as a JASA on reasonable points.

Isn't that the theory, find a classic award call up to check availability as an xASA?

Has anyone tested this theory? Plenty of accusations that these discounted ASA's can't be seen any more, of course not, they're not supposed to be seen, the communication has said you must call. But has anyone called up yet and tested the correlation?

Me thinks it will just be too hard for everyone....bank the points in the credit card and see what they can offer IMHO
