The rise of the the discount airlines and in turn the rise of people traveling, that previously wouldn't consider it in turn leads to those with very little social skills thinking just because they are away from Australia they are free to do as they please.
Maybe I am generalising but have no desire to visit Bali, etc as I don't want my holiday spoilt by some loud obnoxious oaf, and as such locals judging me as guilty by association.

I'm not sure it's restricted to flyers with with LCCs. I work for a company that sends many employees on assignment around the world. I do pre-assignment briefings and assessments of employees both for our company and for the international employees of other companies, the precise point of which is that anyone can (and does) feel like they are escaping scrutiny when overseas and can do things they would most certainly not do at home. I've seen many the embarrassing result when employees innocently or intentionally disregard local rules and behaviour while on assignment.

Hmmm, can see problems with shtum in a public forum, but Balwyn3103's post reminded me of a notorious image of 'Aussies gone feral on assignment'
