Are you a seat recliner ?

Just wondering how many of us non-recliners would be complaining if our seats did not recline at all for a short day time flight.
Why would us non-recliners complain? I don't need the "feature".

I still think the best solution is what used to be for smokers and non-smokers.

Main cabin and front of economy = No recline
Rear cabin of economy = Recline

I am assuming the majority of people do not recline. Then everyone can be happy....

Not many, I would encourage airlines to do it, just as long as they don't try to cramp more of us in Y!

It happens - there are a few JQ A320s without reclining seats. (sometimes out of NTL you don't have a choice...)

I generally don't, if it impacts the person behind me, though if the row in front does, then I have to consider my space... main issue for me is recling one seat while the others in a row are not, so you can see through the gap and might get glared at by the seat mate of the one you've reclined into, if that makes sense.

Had a gem of an reclining excuse on the weekend. Was travelling back from Dubai to Sydney after a 2-day trip to the UK ... so I was already well shagged from travelling. On a nice new Emirates A380 so as soon as I sat down I started up a movie and tried to psych myself into a movie/dinner/doze routine. We were a little late pushing back so I was well into the movie as we taxied out to the runway, when suddenly the screen became closer and fuzzier. It took me a few seconds to realise I had been Reclined. WTF!

I took a deep breath and gave the best impression of Dirty Harry I could muster as I encouraged the offending pax to put his seat back upright. "Sorry," he said, "I thought we had taken off!" I know the A380 is a quiet aircraft, but that has to be the dumbest thing a fellow traveller has ever said to me. He's up for Recliner of the Year!

I would be very happy if no seat reclined in Y, including long haul Y.

I have seen on more than one occasion people reclining their seat the second they can and then using pillows behind their back and head to bring them back to where the seat was before it was reclined so they can read etc.

Do the EK A380s not have hard shell seats like QF that slide forward rather than reclining back?

Not in economy, though the seat does move forward slightly as the back reclines.

Very OT but another intriguing aspect to the front of the lower EK A380 deck - toilet configuration. There were 2 on the left and right of the fuselage, and two more either side of a short stairwell. Invariably some pax would wander up the front and fail to check all the toilets, and then a queue would form behind them even though the indicator signs would clearly show that a toilet was available. I found it peversely amusing that every time I needed to pee I would step politely around the queue, find the unloved cubical and let myself in. Pathetic, I know, but it helped with the boredom.

Wanker of the year more like it.

You think recliners lack some intelligence? :p

I remember the time I got transferred to an LX economy flight BKK-SIN and I had the seat behind the bulkhead. Just as we were taking off the 2 seats recline fully. Somehow managed to have the seats in upright position during meal service.

The ones I hate the most are the ones that recline and go to sleep. I have asked FA to sort it out during meal times but they refuse to wake them. That is unfair and extremely selfish.

Happily reclined today on QF48 (well post meal time) only to have some woman behind me spit the dummy and go on about me not reclining as it was inconsiderate - FFS - why do they have the functionality if its not to be used? Frankly if she had asked nicely I would have happily not reclined, as it was she just stressed herself off and pissed me off as well. Being the gentleman I am I put my seat upright and ignored her for the rest of the flight
Sometime it's just not worth the hassle of arguing the point...

CX has a hard shell (that they're replacing), which only slides the seat forward and doesn't actually recline, while QF has a combination of the seat moving forward and a little recline (what CX are moving to).

I was happily reclined (and asleep) following a dinner service on a 12am departure flight. Only to be woken by a pat on the shoulder and the lady behind me staring at me. She was claiming that I was invading her personal space and could I put the seat back. I then looked at her seat which was fully reclined into someone else! Because I am a respectful person but none too happy I put my seat up a touch which she was satisfied with.

Of course, after that I couldn't sleep again, I was furious!

I am happy to help anyone who asks but when they have double standards, it's difficult to be polite.

My main argument is that you pay for a ticket and in the price you get a seat that reclines.
If you really are 6 foot 4 you would not have that opinion, not at least if you ever traveled in economy.
I am 6"2 and when someone reclines if I am sitting up straight alot of the time my knees will be in the back of the seat, so I am sure yours would be.

I have even been in J and been reclined on per-bne and there was not that much space and it was cramped.

I rarely recline and like many here if i do, I will have a look at the size of the person behind me and or will ask them if it is okay over my shoulder. If there is a big person there I would not even bother because I know how it feels.

People with the "I paid for my ticket and therefore do not need to be considerate of others" attitude are one of the real negatives about regular flying.

Had to be in Melbourne this morning and caught a Jetstar flight from NTL (No other option!). Started working on my laptop not long after takeoff. The person in row 1 reclined (my laptop screen became caught in the latch for the tray at the top and my computer almost snapped in 2 as the person in front thrust themselves backwards). For such a small seat pitch I personally think reclining seats are ridiculous....thankfully I am not claustrophobic! The few extra inches on qantas and virgin were missed.

Maybe they need to install reversing cameras and warning tones on the new fangled planes. You know - as soon as the recline button is pressed a little flashing/beeping light warns the victim behind so that they have time to save laptop\drink from damage, and the screen of the person in front switches to a little rear-facing camera so they can also understand how close they are when reclining.

Oh - and I would install severe hydraulic damping so that it would take 10 seconds of bench-pressing force to get the seat fully reclined.

Actually ....scratch all that. Just disable recline in economy because it is more bother than it's worth.

Was in 2F on QF with SWMBO in 2D and the guy in 1D fully reclined his seat during meal service resulting in drinks spilled everywhere, wasn't too happy with that to be honest

Didn't Ryanair do that? Remove reclining seats as it saved weight and cost?
